Are Human Fishworkers Inherently Evil?
« on: August 08, 2014, 05:19:01 pm »

It seems to me that Human Fishworkers are inherently evil. Why?

Because every single Human Necromancer I've ever had siege my fort, has been a Fishworker of some sort. Does the constant fishing drive them loopy? Did they hook one too many fishes? Or did they drink the bong water? Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I just thought it was kind of funny.

They have been corrupted by the carp.
Their terrible secrets are the wellspring of their unholy power, but they are only the servants of a greater evil.
The fish will rise again... be very afraid.

You are so right. The Carp has whispered things into their ears. The Carp are up to no good.

If you were a fishworker, you would develop an unhealthy fascination with death yourself. Admit it.

To be fair, if you were a solider, a hunter, a butcher, a tanner, an engraver, a noble, a weapon smith, an armor smith, or a medic you would have an unhealthy interest in death. I'm sure there would be other professions, but this is a healthy sample. Its fair to say that most sentient creatures in DF have a life that someway or another circles around the drain of death.

No, what is curious is how fishworkers have an inordinate amount of drive to become necromancers. Surely nearly everyone wants immortality, but the fishworkers are the ones who manage to find it?..

It's them tablets.

Everyone who finds them either reads them, or chucks them into the river.

where they are swallowed by the carp....

which are caught by the fisherdwarves...

...then found by the fishworkers as they clean the day's catch.

Fisher's have more opportunity for philosophical thought, other professions have something to do with their hands to keep themselves distracted from the thoughts of death, a fisher has to wait in the river for its catch.

Actually makes more sense than I expected  :o

It's not just fishermen who are inherently evil, fisherdwarves are too!

Not a coincidence, just too much Lovecraft. He had a thing for necromancers and fishworkes. And fish-people. When you read about a successful fishworker who became a necromancer you've just found a new role model!
