Hehe! I think I have a good character concept going now.

I'm going to try to fill some of the thematic gaps in the party. The concept I have going is fairly fleshed out at this point and the sheets are half done. I'm going for a naturalist archetype; someone who prefers to meet and see Pokémon in their more natural state. Accordingly, the character has some basic knowledge of the woods and making food, but is absolutely terrible at battling and is skittish at the thought of it. I originally started out with a male character, but I've come to like the idea of a female one.

This will be my first time RPing as a girl though so... Well here goes!

And here I was thinking that, for the first time ever, there would be something Pokémon-related with no female main characters.

((The champion, professor, Team [REDACTED] leader, etc. are all male.))

Ah well, we might as well avoid unnecessary script-changing when Game Freak makes the campaign the official basis of Pokémon Light and Pokémon Darkness. :P

*flips the table* WHO ON EARTH THOUGHT OF A FEMALE!?!?! CHANGE THE SCRIPTS! THE GYM LEADERS! EVERYTHING!

In all seriousness, that wouldn't be a bad idea at all

Who wants to bet the only girl in the party is a lesbian?

On a different note, do Ralts actually sense emotions from others and have a strong bond with their trainers here or are you scrapping that for some reason?

If I ever make a character and leave the waitlist, and by happenstance birdy's character is removed, it will be.  :P

Hm.
I think I'll focus around ICE.
Maybe.
I need to read the PDF.

Given the fact that the GM ignored the fact that in the pokedex, honedge kills you if you try to wield it (cause it's based on Tyrfing), I don't think that's something that will be included

Technically, there's artwork in the book of a guy wielding a Honedge.

Anyway, if I were to scrap it, would that be bad or good?

Ehh...

I think it's something to keep in mind as a GM. Pokémon have their own different personalities and traits that should be respected. A quick trip to Bulbapedia can say a lot about what kind of Pokémon we're dealing with. Since a Honedge will harm whoever touches it's sash, it's easy to surmise that if it cared about it's trainer it wouldn't want to be wielded. It's actually a neat quirk in Pokémon Amie where Honedge will let new trainers touch the sash, but then get angry when the trainer touches the sash after they have bonded. Therefore, I wouldn't quite trust the artwork. I think it's there mostly for show.

At any rate, I will always support giving Pokémon a personality rather than it just being a static creature.

For instance... Say we have two Misdreavus. One is only seen when released from it's Pokeball and as soon as the battle is over, it's now no longer important. The second is a mischievous Misdreavus that enjoys flying around screaming and munching on the hair of it's trainer as soon as she has let her guard down.

One has personality, and is therefore easier to love and connect with. Pokémon, like trainers can have their own dynamic character.

Generation VI
X    Apparently this Pokémon is born when a departed spirit inhabits a sword. It attaches itself to people and drinks their life force.
Y    If anyone dares to grab its hilt, it wraps a blue cloth around that person's arm and drains that person's life energy completely.

Welcome to Tyrfing, where the whole point of the sword is to try its best to kill its wielder by trying to kill EVERYONE

Now that you came up with that, I have to come up with personality quirks and stuff for Grond... Huzzah?

Aw man, you're guilttripping me. :( :P

Anyway, I guess I don't have any reason to stop it, so go ahead and have the bonding and whatnot.

On the topic of the (now sorta defunct, considering the fellow who had it planned left) Honedge, there's also the fact that that's the Kalos dex. It's perfectly plausible Honedge in other regions have different behavior.

I don't know... A lot of the pokedexes agree on some things... Some examples are haunter's licking to drain life, magikarp's uselessness (which is a lie), cubone wearing the skull of its mother and Drifloom kidnapping and killing children by bringing them to Hell.

Food for thought, pokemon, if viewed upon more, isn't for kids. And I see that picture in the pokemon adventures image in Honedge's page on bulbapedia and I scream BULLS***! Seriously, even though its a sword pokemon, it probably doesn't LIKE being used by human hands and is probably why it acts like Tyrfing! Its like slowpoketails in how some things about pokemon are there but shouldn't be done.

Meet Kira and Birch!

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/92394180/Kira.pdf

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/92394180/Birch.pdf

Kira is not an exceptionally social person. She wouldn't have been seen hanging out with the fashionista cliques or the Junior Pokémon Fan Club of Paratria. No. As soon as school was out, Kira was the kind of person who would go home and break away from the rigors of school life. She had a distinct fondness for wandering off into the wilderness, gathering berries, and observing the Pokémon in their natural state. It's her belief that Pokémon are best left alone in their natural state; a view she shares with her father, a Pokémon Ranger and her chief inspiration.

The idea of battling Pokémon for sport sets her at ill ease, and she is not altogether comfortable with capturing Pokémon. She despises Team Rocket and other organizations that abuse Pokémon because of this, and is quick to judge others who rely too heavily on their Pokémon. Kira is mostly a pacifist. She wishes to find a middle ground where the two parties, Pokémon and Mankind can find a middle ground.

But these views caused her some trouble. For long period of time, she has had no Pokémon to call her own, which excluded her from many of the normal activities of her peers. Then fate intervened. One day as she walked home from school, she espied a lone Starly with a broken wing in the bushes at the front of her house. It's condition had caused the rest of it's flock to abandon it, and it had been left alone. Confused and agitated, it refused all attempts of Kira to treat it and it tried to run off with little success. In order to ensure this Pokémon didn't harm itself further, Kira was forced to use one of her father's Pokeballs to catch it.

Indignant, but disabled, it was taken to the nearby Pokémon Center for treatment. Too small to be released back into the wild without it's flock nearby, and too rowdy to be left alone with anyone else, Kira reluctantly became the trainer of the little Starly, which she named Birch after the Pokémon Professor of Hoenn. Despite what Kira has done for him so far though, Birch continues to be handful and constantly wishes to get into brawls with other Pokémon for the sake of battle. This places a conflict between trainer and Pokémon given Kira's view on battling and utter lack of experience.

Still, she's ready to try. At her father's urging, Kira has prepared herself to go out into the world with her friends for the sake of seeing the world and becoming a better trainer. While she isn't sure that travelling with this group is a good idea, it would be an even worse idea for her to go it alone. Thus, Kira is going out into the world She is no gourmet chef, she picked up a few things from her mother to make Pokémon food for Birch and she has her father's intuition when it comes to watching how Pokémon behave both in the wild and in a trainer's possession.

With Birch at her side, she's unconfident that she'll get very far, but it's not like she has anything better to do. It's better than staying at home exploring the same old tracks of woods.
