If it cannot fly, then it cannot escape, Begin growing crystal directly up and around it, using it's energy as fuel. the more it struggles, the thicker the crystals would get.

Cycle 54

It is interesting, containing an angry energy being. You started with a bit of storage crystal, since this clearly requires holding the thing in and had the bonus effect of blowing up in its face painfully if it ever overstepped its bounds. And then it woke back up, begun shouting at you more, and then trying to burn you off it with brute force energy blasts. The shouting was annoying, but the energy was rather easily redirected into more storage crystal to encase it with, to the point where by the time you had your new companion/servant/siege weapon fully enclosed, you had regained the starting energy you'd spent on the storage crystals, and then enough redirection to reform its cage into energy vault crystal. The entire thing.

Hah, Crystalline. Thou believes The Chained can be so easily contained within weak crystal?
If you overload them, they will explode with the full force of the energy you've poured into them to overload. We expect it would be extremely painful, but in the meantime, are you saying you will continue to attack us with energy?
THE CHAINED WILL NOT BE HELD TO ONE NOT NATIVE! Your answer is in the affirmative.
Nativity? Honestly? That will be an irrelevant metric soon. Us Crystalline are firmly entrenched now, and its only a matter of time before we rediscover enough to take full control of the Alterin fusion reactor. At that point, the underground will be ours and ours alone. The surface will be filled with negotiations, or if these proxians are an example of all natives, aggressive negotiations.

As for
you, We will ask a second time: either follow us willingly, or be demoted to research subject. Your being is not of interest to us, your darkflyme is. Did you think we would wait for the ritual and kill the interrupting arcanist just for someone to talk to?
And what if The Chained will not give away the secret, and have the Darkflyme return to whence it came?
Without the Darkflyme your existence is forfeit, energy being. Crystalline have much better use for your energy than a immense specter, and you would do well to remember that.
The Chained is immortal and cannot be killed. You are overconfident, rock.

Hmpf. No acceptance. You redirect the following energy blasts into full repairs, even managing to put the assimilated material back together with so much free energy to mess with. A bit later in the cycle you get a message from Outpost Cavern, noting that the Conveyor crystal type should be possible now. Although they weren't able to recreate the right kind of base crystal for it, so for the time being it has to be converted off of a refined and is a bit less efficient than otherwise as a result.
Spoiler: Result (click to show/hide)

With that, you decide you've spent enough time playing with the Chained and order Outpost Prox (formerly Outpost Smoothed) to just redirect all energy attacks from it into its containment crystal set as a kind of reserve storage/imprisonment but to alert you if doing so would end in it destabilizing or otherwise not being intact. You instead focus on directing a significant section of research on how to acquire what you captured the thing for in the first place via interrogation. Also what in the name of the Prime Crystal the stuff actually is, and occasionally drawing on its cage's energy to thoroughly dismantle its attempts at blocking or dissuading you and your researching units from finding out, although the last of those takes effort and distracts you annoyingly.

I've heard recently that Chrome cannot into a number of bbcodes. Considering how many I have in this post alone (bold, italics, img, doubled shadows, color, spoiler, abbr, hr), does it still look alright in that? More out of curiosity than of changing anything.
Also, the set of storage crystals holding the chained well and firmly to the ground do not count as part of the general energy storage, for reference. Its essentially spare energy I can use to tidy things up without having to go into a second cycle to make one last crystal or convert one more assimilated bit, or if we ever no longer need that thing, a large pile of energy you guys can use for something.

Well the image is just a link, but other than that,

Meditate on what kind of setup would we need to create our own brand of energy-beings. Preferably not as large as our friend here.

For fun.

For more practical purposes.
Also, investigate how crystals react to extreme heat and pressure over time. The latter will certainly be a thing if you go deep enough, ya?

I propose we should close that cavern entrance. Also provides a shorter and wider path in the case of an energy overflow from our little friend.

Check on our dear Alterin friends.

Also build some more Research Crystals continuing off of our current Research Crystals into empty space. Whatever process is most efficient, of course.

More later.

Cycle 55

Its a very interesting mix, you've discovered so far. While major portions of the research into it and the Chained are still far from workable or usable (or even make sense), you have found out the general mixture of the Darkflyme and why it causes apocalyptic amounts of collateral damage: Its essentially some unstable other-dimensional substance wrapped up in a antigravitic liquid that ignites if it touches almost anything. Not so much a flame to burn out the infidels as it is an extradimensional smiting that is on fire as a bonus. The Alteri and their proudly thorough tests certainly would not have expected that, and you set Outpost Cavern to adding more research crystals while you take a break from research and go see what the Alterin Fortress is up to while you're thinking of them.
You find a message that appears to have had the end of it roughly torn out and replaced with plaintext buried in one of the remaining unencrypted com channels while doing a skim through signals circling through the wiring of your few Forgitar half-crystals.
Quote
Crystalline. If you're being as much of a stealth bastard as I expect you are being considering your recent silence, read this and then use key fiv3 on channel abcde. I will have more words with you, without others peeking at it through security cameras and asking stupid questions afterwards. Also that is the only channel with such a short key, if you were expecting to get some other use out of it.

...And if you've been reading encrypted messages somehow, you're probably expecting a name here. I may be being sneaky in a field I'm not the best in here, but I'm not stupid and you know it STOP

Aside from that, theres very little of interest to access without the previously mentioned hacking now, with the notable exception of reactor control and management, which appears to be unchanged from your previous hurried search for the alarm cancel. So you move on to other matters, such as the extensive damage caused by a lack of shortcuts. Your position on the Proxians no longer being one of stealthy and quiet progression (Although, one of them had come to check up on the Master Arcanist, then ran back in horror upon seeing the blast wound in his chest sometime ago without looking at the ground below the Chained, so your cover might still be usable), you simply close it off with shield crystals, convert the no longer necessary other shield crystals into refineds, and claim the cavern-facing wall you'd previously left clear.

Next, onto the issue of yourself being so high up and outrageously exposed. You have the Conveyor type, and since you would literally be moving yourself, you'd probably be able to circumvent the inefficiency of them in their current state, so you convert refineds accordingly. You get a very weird feeling while moving down, but otherwise it works as planned, and once you've properly realigned the everything in accordance with your new position, convert the refined in your former position into an Overseer crystal, Outpost Surface; and reinforce your new surrounding with repair crystals. Theres yet more energy available after that surprisingly, so you make a quartet of forgitar half-crystals, a few more repair crystals, and begin to ponder the possibility of making energy beings to walk around as. Could be fun.

Well theres been no suggestions for anything in particular and Rolepgeek's More later hasn't been edited to something else, so I'll post the next cycle's conversation and perhaps we can go from there.

Cycle 56

You search for awhile for a way to access the mentioned channel before finding one. Accessing it once you've found it is a simple matter.

[unidentified user] - Ah, you've come Crystalline. Would you like to hear a saying the Alterin Imperium has made great use of? I feel it may be relevant to the upcoming discussion.
Should we assume this is who we think it is? As to your question, sure.
[unidentified user] - Maxim 35: That which does not kill you has made a tactical error.
Are you implying the Proxians attacked us with the being in the distance?
[unidentified user] - Am I wrong?
It was directed at your fortress. We have...restrained it, in favor of not losing a potential ally. Or like it has become, a potential research subject.
[unidentified user] - You have cracked the forgite problem then? Intriging.
Not if you consider 'recreation' as the final goal and not simple subjugation of existing material.
[unidentified user] - I can't tell if you're trying to flatter our materials tech or get me to blab about it more. Clearly you have a significant interest in it if you intervened in such a way.
The solution would be found with enough time. But perhaps you would be interested in assisting us?
[unidentified user] - Maxim 30: A little trust goes a long way. The less you use, the further you will go.
It appears you Alteri are not as direct as the Proxians can be. But, we are not uncompromising in everything. Name your price for giving up the unclassified and legitimate details of forgite fabrication, and it will be weighed against the risk. There can be only three outcomes: Cooperation, Acquiring your knowledge by other means, or War.
[unidentified user] - An entire crystal of any type. Disarmed of your tool-disintegrating self-defense mechanism.

Feeler crystal? Maybe desync it so it doesn't have the same vibrational tier as us?

He didn't say it had to be anything in particular, it just can't be actively hostile to tools. So yes, a modified Feeler crystal would be acceptable.

Oh sorry some stuff came up and then you updated and I didn't have the time to read the update really, so I forgot/figured it was too late to edit.

I say we develop something completely off-kilter. Something that can give them just enough misinformation to work to our advantage.

After all, you know they'll be doing the same thing to us.

I also say continue working on assimilating the fortress, produce more research crystals, and most of all: start going down. I want to see what the interior workings of this planet are.

Also, consider development of a crystal able to display or otherwise contain those glyphs the Proxians have. I want my Magic, damnit.

The glyphs are engravings, for the most part. So something that could have things written on them, perhaps.
I like where the rest of that going though :)
