Lizards are better provided you like the differences between them and dogs. Like not being able to jump and not making much noise (major pluses for me). They do take a lot more effort to get tame though since they aren't naturally social creatures. A lot of the bigger species are meant to become very friendly once tame though, I've seen videos of Tegu lizards, about the size of a large cat, walking up to their owners and clambering into their laps and 'chuffing', a noise they make when happy or courting.

According to a video description linked by an imgur comment, that's a robot controlled by a human operator. So it's like a puppet. No AI present.

Stereo cameras mounted on a 2-DOF servo-controlled neck stream live video to the operator’s head-mounted display, which in turn sends the real-time attitude of the operator’s head to the neck servos in the robot. The operator is visually immersed in the robot’s physical workspace, and through the bilateral coupling of the low-impedance hydrostatic transmission, directly feels interaction forces between the robot and external environment. We qualitatively assessed the performance of this system for remote object manipulation and use as a platform to safely study physical human-robot interaction.
