I'm going to make myself some dinner and then I'll bring us on to turn 71. It's been sufficiently long enough since I posted my turn that the outcomes will be a complete mystery.

Spoiler: Battle Log (click to show/hide)

The Danes blockade the New York harbour, sinking an Irish as it sought to leave. But they couldn't blockade every port and route out and barges full of timber from the Highlands arrived at the Irish shipyards, the seeds of another fleet.

Welsh forces muster outside Sheffield, slaughtering a wave of Mercian resistance. In their homelands the Danes pour into Haverfordwest and the best of the Cyngen family gather to form a counterforce.

In the south, Wessex retakes Bore and Londinium, destroying the greater part of the strength of what was once the Bronze Horde. In the far north, Pictish horsemen slaughter the Danes in the hinterlands while the black flag flies once more at the gates of Conniston.

When doing one of the trades, Wales only had 19 food at the beginning of the turn, but otherwise the trade all went ahead.

Fuuuuck, my units. I could have used those for crushing Danes.

Varee, I'm moving a knight into your territories so he doesn't suicide himself on Horse H. He'll move back out next turn.

Oh there were just a few of them an Almych, I forgot to include their slaughter in the write-up.

Yes, I attempted to evacuate them so they could join my main force, but I lost the initiative roll.

I'm looking forward to when Fertile Lands reaches the level of strategy that this is exhibiting in such a small space. I wonder how Vanigo's game would fare if you put some already well-formed kingdoms onto a fairly large map.

*looks up Fertile Lands*

Oh! I didn't realise you were running another Vanigo game. Did you intentionally keep it low-tech? Lemon modded the original Vanigo set-up to get rid of the magic for the dark ages historical setting. I'm looking forward to seeing how your game develops, there's more second-guessing and strategising the further the game goes on.

Yes, I intentionally kept magic out. I'm thinking of expanding the tech tree a little further at some point. Get some musket units in there for the end game.

Spoiler: Ireland turn 71 (click to show/hide)
I gotta say this turn was quite unexpected. The Danes didn't end up attacking me, and all the south-west ones are attacking Wales instead (when I expected the majority of them to attack me). Role is sending enough troops up north to contest my small amount of knights. The Danes appear to be pretty much cleaned up down south.

Varee: What are you planning on doing now? You should be able to clean the Danes up this turn, and after that you should be done with them for a while.

Yeah, he is using some rules I edited to balance the game a bit (and add a few more things that should make it slightly different to play), in addition to some of his own changes to the rules.

Spoiler: Battle Log (click to show/hide)

In the north, the Pictish armies evade defeat with the superior movement, pushing on to retake North Tor. In the south, Wessex inextricably continues to retake the Daneheld provinces. The Irish rejoin their fleets in Narsis and the Welsh combine their forces into a super-army to stop the Danish hordes that now amass at the clifftop walls of Lampeter. Enjoying a brief respite, Mercia increases their woodcutting efforts in their eastern swamps and forests.

Oh for frick's sake. That's just cheesy. Welcome to Coin Flip City: do my units all assemble in my city and effortlessly destroy the Danish assault, or do the Danes effortlessly take the city and my units suicide uselessly against the walls to a man?
