I feel like I'd be able to understand it at all if it were just MSPA, because I've read all of it. Maybe that's not a correct idea of the abilities that simply reading the story grant me, however.

Really, the only thing I got was sprites. The talk of rings and dreamselves made me think of Fallen London.

It was just Homestuck (and more generally MSPA), yeah sorry.  Though I am still deep in Fallen London and Sunless Seas.
Sunless Skies is one of those games I'm worried about experiencing, because my expectations are so fricken high.  I've already been reassured though, and I'll get to it soon.

Also: He froze instantly when removing his protection.

Which doesn't happen in space.

I was under the impression that when you took off your helmet while you were in space you just died and then it didn't matter what happened to your body because you didn't care because you were dead.

Not instantly.

NASA knows this, because of "training accidents" involving negative pressures in pressure chambers.

I like the insinuation at the "training accidents" were intentional.

It's awful that not even in NASA do they get away from peer pressure

They're probably the worst about it, outside of the maritime oil industry. There's some piers under real pressure there.
