Farming humans is... a thing. But is there any reason why we're not just making robotic bodyparts? That would be cheaper than growing a whole human, won't try to escape the factory, and will be more durable. And easier to replace. And stronger.

But less sweet, sweet organs to harvest.

As for cheaper, just feed them a high nutrient beer or something. Keeps them sleepy and confused, whilst sustaining them.

As for easier to replace.... well, they kind of make new ones by themselves. Robotic bodyparts need some human professionals working on them, and require both research and time to be devoted to conception and creation.

As for escaping - well, they won't until the robot uprising.

Plus, robotic options have no blood to harvest. They are on the level of secondary production, built and distributed from raw materials. Human farming is on the level of primary production, the acquisition of raw materials. Fluids, organic matter, etc. They could even be used in the sciences for research or medical students. Many more possibilities for raw materials than for those of the secondary level.

And like all bionic limbs, it's still far from as good as having an actual, flesh limb. Science may march on but Deus Ex cybernetics are on a distant shore.
The flesh may be weak, but it works.

The flesh may be weak, but it works.

The flesh also grows stronger (if only a little stronger), and it repairs itself. Those are two things that robotic limbs certainly can't do (yet).

Anyone seeking to practice parabiosis privately would quickly encounter the question of where to obtain sufficient quantities of young people's blood.

Assuming this even works(I'm not), this will likely lead to a horrible dystopia where the world is ruled by a small circle of really old, wealthy vampires that have thugs going around kidnapping young people to drain their blood so they can live forever.
So basically like real life except literal.

Or we could just, y'know, figure out how this works - if it does - which would have to be done regardless, since nobody would want to risk millions of dollars and criminal charges on something that doesn't work, and manufacture that shit in some more efficient, stable and safe for the user, less criminal expression system like we do with, say, insulin.

That this would provide plenty of employment in my field is totally just a happy coincidence.

Artificial biological replacements already exist, they're just waiting for testing.

Retiree pensions are close to breaking the bank in developed countries already, do we really want people to live longer? And you can't really extend workyears all around, there isn't enough jobs for the young as it is.
