At the (doctor who) convention I went to this weekend, I get into an elevator en route to the con suite. There had to have been at least 12 people crammed in there, instantly hot and crowded. Elevator starts crawling upwards, and someone says "Well whadya know, it's smaller on the inside!"

Ha.

What do you all do at all those conventions anyway? Talk about comics/Minecraft/Dr. Who?

If you're into cringe humour, RPS just released a pretty brutal review with Peter Molyneux concerning the failure of Godus, and what follows is an industry professional of thirty frick fracking years being a naive dunderhead about every step of game development.

watch Molyneux whine his little auteur-driven panties off

Fakeedit: omg the fact that it's an impromptu thing over the phone makes for some fucking great quotes

Quote
Peter Molyneux: I think he had had a temporary– He certainly came to the studio– Let me ask. [shouting in background] Konrad!

[in distance] Konrad: Yeah?

Peter Molyneux: When did you first come to 22cans?

Konrad: [inaudible]

They were really rude to him in that piece.  It was very inappropriate to open with the question: "Do you think that you’re a pathological liar?"

For me, reading that was like watching a serial killer get in a grisly car crash. He deserved it, but Jesus Christ, is it horrible to watch.
Since PM is a developer of some of my favourite games (~the movies~), the serial killer is also your wedding planner.

Having only been to three (different) conventions in my life (this one being the only one I've gone to more than once), generally it's people talking about overall geek stuff and dressing up, panels with guest speakers talking about subjects related to the convention's focus (or sometimes just science), people hawking their wares, a great big cosplay contest, and having guests from whatever the thing is talk about stuff.

Also, alcohol-infused karaoke, the "con suite" which is full of snacks (and underappreciated volunteer staff), and trying to collect all the ribbons.

Considering the fact that "The Fable Cycle" is now a thing in gaming vernacular that refers to promising far and above what you offer in a game, and then shitting on it after the marketing cycle is through, I think it's very deserved. This is pretty much the first interview where someone asked Molyneux real questions instead of letting him cry and restart the Fable cycle. Plus, as John references multiple times, he started the same cycle for Godus (with the bonus of recieving about a half million pounds on kickstarter with a promised seven months till a release (back in 2012)). This is an industry veteran of thirty years who's acting like every jane and john making a gosh golly kickstarter nowadays.

Basically, Molyneux has been doing this shit for decades, it's just that we can see it now instead of it being hidden behind publisher doors.

That reminds me of the college humour clip where GRRM is a wedding planner.

I think Molyneux should get together with Tony Abbott. They'd make a great duo.

This is a digital interview. All journalism is of the highest quality. It depicts an image of a developer and a journalist. The journalist is standing over the developer. The developer is in a fetal position. It is circled with bands of dissemblance. It menaces with spikes of truth.

What did they say about the pharaoh who had his grooming tools buried with him?

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
