((Merfolk are actually in the SRD, but okay :P ))

"Well, let's go~!" Relic says, going to prepare the ship.

Action: Let's cast off in the general direction of the island! Relic will be in front with her bow, keeping her elven eyes looking for trouble.

Reli was prone to certain strong emotions, and nervousness was one of them. She was afraid of failing her new teammates before she ever even got to know them. What if she couldn't hit anything her bow? Her hands were steady, though-Reli had spent her whole life facing down the things that made her afraid...

Usually when she was feeling skittish she chattered away, but Sacha was clearly annoyed by that. She guessed the woman wouldn't enjoy a rousing sea shanty, either.

She decided to show Beolas her special aquatic longbow. Relic never felt nervous talking to him.

It was a beautiful weapon, if only for it's exotic nature, a longbow seemingly with grips of worked red coral and a recurved body of driftwood and ship parts-there are looping carvings on the coral done in small, delicate images, with a steady hand-birds, fish, dolphins, sharks, sun, moon, ships. If he looks closely, he can see Relic herself as a younger girl, alongside her parents-who look like Elves, but with fish scales, gills, and flippers.

"...see the string? It's a sort of kelp-it's a bit tougher than a normal bowstring, and it keeps the arrow from shaking around too much...it helps my arrows fly straighter, though I have to keep it in salt water to keep it fresh. I don't usually fletch my arrows-they have these flaps, see? Helps the arrows swim through the water. That's why they don't have the barbs you usually see, I'd use those for fishing-these are just straight points...helps to hit your target...

...My da did the carvings, thought the bow itself I've had to replace nearly everything from since when I first got it."
She says, looking at Beolas.

"Can't say I've ever seen the like before, lass," Beolas grunts, "You're nae twisting my sails about shooting 'neath the sea?"

She shakes her head. "Nae." Relic says, miming his accent, though kindly. "Assuming you don't get a first hand experience, I'll show you later how Sea Elves fish-with a bow, and a length of cord! Why wait for the fish to bite the hook when you can shoot him and haul him up? It's not so easy to hit things that way, due to shadows and light, but it's a lot better than throwing rocks, or waiting for the fish to jump on board and come in range of your plate...

You know, a few of the crews I've served with have liked the design so much they started using it among themselves. It's a bit tricky to manufacture unless you're a Sea Elf, though...they have small communities, here and there. I could maybe get a few, later. They all know me by now."
She insists.

Let's go.
The six of you meander around the island, looking for anything interesting. Nothing really presents itself to any of you among the various tropical plants and sparse, tame wildlife of the lower lands.

Until around an hour before dusk.

On the opposite side of the island from where you had arrived, after cresting one of the many rocky hills, you spot what appears to be some ruins nestled between two rocky hills. Moss grows among the stone walls, which are arranged in strange formations that seem... wrong, somehow. You cannot make out any details from where you stand.

After watching the ruins for a few minutes, Beolas scratches his head, "We've nae seen any sign of civilization or adventure-like things save these, I'm all for gaen and having a peek from closer in."

"It may be wise to return to the boat and wait for tomorrow. Exploring ruins sounds like a dangerous enough activity without stumbling around in the dark."
