Speaking of the less than used IC thread, shouldn't you link to it in the OP?

Did you guys look at that map in the IC thread? There are only like 11 houses, a couple of which are stores and municipal buildings.

Assuming all of you live alone on the east island, there are approximately 15 people here. If any of you happen to share your homes with relatives, assuming a mean of ~2 people, that makes it around 30.

Don't worry, there are cities in the Angaeron. You all happen to live on one two of the smallest inhabited islands.
I was just wondering if that was actually to scale or not. So basically there were the original 7 settlers and hardly anyone else came, and everyone is pretty much the grandchildren of the original group.

Guess I'm having a porpoise animal companion. It'll be pretty smart and can learn lots of useful tricks, but it probably won't be much good in a fight.
The only other animal I'm thinking of is a badger, which I would probably take if I didn't have this rare opportunity of an oceanic campaign setting.

Unless someone can give a solid argument in favor of a badger?

The only argument I can give is that Badgers are kinda cool. BUT so are dolphins! So I think you win either way.

Perhaps Derwyn, at one point, had a badger companion who died years ago due to old age or some such? I'm not entirely sure how the stuff goes for animal companions.

@Rolepgeek: How goes the Palibard? I'm getting pretty stoked to see what you come up with yo!

According to what I read, you can have one animal companion at a time. You can get a new one if it dies or you simply want a different animal, but the ceremony to bind the new one to you requires 24 uninterrupted hours.

Not that it really matters at the moment. If it turns out that porpoises are crappy animal companions, I'll switch.

To Sirus: Not to mention that badgers tend to be aggressive and push bearded midgets into rivers and off mountains. :P

((RIP fisherdorf))

To Rolepgeek: What's left?

Also, to everybody: I'm working on bonus prestige classes to flavorize the campaign. They range from specifically oceanic-based wizards and sorcerers, to a rouge-fighter combo for a pirate of sorts, to a seaworthy variation on rangers.

Said prestige classes will likely be available somewhat earlier than typical ones.

Well, a companion badger would be tame and not attack people unless they were a threat :P

By the way Taw, how many tricks would my companion start with, assuming I've had it for some time? Porpoises can learn up to 6, and being my companion gives it an extra trick at level 1.

@ Rolep: So, most everything? :P

Pretty much, yeah. I'll figure it out soon enough; once I get into a groove, I should able to finish it all fairly quickly.

Wait a second, Rolepgeek.

A paladin who gains a level in any class other than paladin may never again raise her his or her paladin level, though she he or she retains all her his or her paladin abilities.

On another note, it irritates me to no end that most of the classes are erroneously referred to as a specific gender (sorcerer seemingly excepted), particularly that the "MANLY" classes like Fighter, Barbarian, and Ranger are referred to as "he" and almost all the spellcasting classes are referred to as "she".
