Author Topic: Do you make any changes to the MASTERWORK Raws before playing?  (Read 7075 times)

Like the title says, just wondering if anyone else makes a few adjustments to the Masterwork RAWs before you gen a world and start playing.

I personally tweak a couple of very minor things, and only because of how I set things up in fort or to avoid a little micro.

The few things I do:
  • Remove barrels from the bread/candy making reactions.
  • Make bread, candy, and fungi cheese making Automatic.
  • Remove ASH as a product of the coal/coke making reactions (to make using workflow simpler).
  • Remove the Automatic tag from the Sawmill/Wood blocks's "cut rough wood" reactions (I don't use a huge amount of wood as is, and don't need the extra seeds/sawdust).

In past versions I have also messed around with some of the Dwarf Guilds pop numbers, but that was mostly because I had a serious influx of Fishermen in one fort and never wanted to see them again...

So, does anyone else change a few things around?

I usually remove ghoul caste from warlock civ and remove opposed to life from skeletons, and all things related to removing otl from skeletons. I just don't like it.
P.S. Is there a way to stop skeletons from wearing clothes even if there are some available? If this would also make them unable to wear armor then ok. I can just upgrade my military skeletons to ironbone/bloodsteel/dreadnought.

ooo i like the ideas,

Mostly since Meph and others covered things i used to edit in its limited.

i readdin some old features but expanded that got taken out(more slavery/concubine(different than before plus give them natural lying of 3)/drone of various sorts) and add in a few more pets. Also try to modify the races a bit so theres another sub type where they arent scared (meant to man the seige weapons so enemies can get a lot closer and they just dont give a darn and keep firing(just for kicks since most seige weapons...arent particularly good)..also comes in handy if enemies ever get close in enough that some of your levers arent accessable even though the paths etc arent really blocked just noone is brave enough (or intelligent enough haha) to make it.

i also throw in minor tweaks here and there trying them out.

I used to change Mastiff to Mabari, but now they get used little over drakes.  I also gave the warlocks more squads via the 4 horsemen having followers.

I'm trying to figure out how to create a custom body for a new warlock caste. I want them to be like the lotr wraithlords - a empyrean body (right now just a skeleton copy changed to empyrean) and the same thoughts/skills/interactions as the other warlocks.  It's a thought to replace the vampires as a high-end form. It crashed the arena on me right now however.

if i'm playing dwarves i usually add in the "pet caste" that was removed, since people don't like the word, i'd call them indentured servants who all just happen to be female and help populate my migration limited fort "naturally"

mess with the Initfolder to change nicknames to replace all their names, usually cause the terribad mismash of letters gets my ocd boiling in peoples names (english dwarves dont help warlocks btw -.-)

I always make a few more reactions automatic, like upgrading leather, processing ore, converting ironbark/steeloak into iron/steel bars, or pressing peat to compact peat. Also modify a few reactions to either produce the right things or more useful things. Particularly the "grind boulders to base materials" one; I don't need silver/gold/platinum, so I modify the reaction to produce the copper, iron, gypsum, and whatnot that I do need.

ETA: Just remembered, I also remove the REACTION_CLASS:STEEL_COATING from spring steel so it doesn't get used up on engraving things rather than making guns or turrets. Also add EDIBLE_COOKED to shadowleaf leaves, so I don't wind up with half my bags full of inedible leaves AGAIN.

i always make dragons have higher natural skills, and add in a bunch of body size entries to try and get them to survive worldgen.

Here is my Wraith code, maybe someone can see where I went wrong.  Finding out that creating creatures and dealing with modding body/tissue raws is very complex.  Reactions and workshops area breeze in comparison.

My goal was to copy the skeleton's structure to make an empyrean skeleton version that was basically a warlock.  Then figure out if they need to be tougher, if so, add ethereal skin/tendons.  Ideally figure how to add a ebony glass skull with the brain/soul inside that.

The reaction would be first to take ebony glass to make a skull/totem, second, that ebony totem plus a few other expensive reagents would then allow a change into the more powerful form.  Then on death, only the skull is dropped, so no weird meat or bones.  I noticed that people (including myself) stick to bloodsteel/dreadnaught, so I figured some arcane magic would go well with using ebony glass and giving that a purpose to the warlocks.

Let me know if I should port this discussion to the other thread.

Some of my modifications are a tad more "cheaty."

I lower [CHILD] down to 2 so that I can run a fortress rather than a daycare.
I remove Flies from CREATURE_INSECTS so that it's not practically mandatory to keep food in barrels/pots.
I narrow the attribute distribution so that individuals are closer to average rather than having such drastic ups and downs.
Sometimes in the past I've added [BABYSNATCHER] to otherwise allied factions to give me more enemies.
And I frequently change the color of sand so that it's not such a glaring departure from the more earthy tones around it.

That or the dark green.  Yellow is perfect for deserts, but it tends to clash with all the other colors in the temperate beach embarks that I prefer.  Occasionally I switch icons for Obsidian, too, but that's purely an aesthetic choice of my own.

I think I will try brown and black sand, and add them in a future update. dark green is a bit... well. It certainly fits with the grass, but I dont recall ever seeing green sand lying around.

Changing the color scheme to make green darker would also be a solution. I might have to think about that, to make it closer to the grey/brown/black of the other pebbles/ground tiles.

I've toyed with something similiar to the ideas expressed in this thread, trying to create a "wraith" caste. But I've been creating them with the intention of using them with the humans, honestly. I wanted a powerful necromancer-fighter option for non-warlocks, just enough apart from the pure evil theme that it could be a high tier magic unit for the good/neutral races, similiar to the black mages the dwarves have.

Been trying to figure out a way to add a downside in the form of a chance for the unit to either leave the fort or turn hostile, to reperesent playing with fire, so to speak.

I add mithril as a vein stone in igneous intrusive, so there is something deep to go looking for besides adamantine.  Granted I've never gotten to the point of making the mithril fort I want to try creating, since I keep restarting before I get anywhere near the depths.  I may try adding some reactions to the furniture workshop, maybe add glass sets...
