I'd really rather not do Europe as these games are always based on European stuff anyway, and it's just so common it gets old.

How about China?  It's had its fair share of civil wars.  You could even have one person play as the Mongols.

That would be interesting. The various Dynasties. I'd been considering Japan, but there would be far too many factions for that to work if it was in the Sengoku Jidai era. But yes, eastern asia would be interesting...a map large enough to include parts of Tibet and possibly even Japan, maybe Korea as well, would have a multi-national possibility if people didn't want to just do a civil war.

I'm not a big fan of the alt win conditions in the UK game. Mainly on general principal, not through any specific point against any individual one. That said, you might want to open your own thread for you game.

China does seem like a pretty interesting setting. Especially with a mongol fraction. It would be especially awesome if you modded it to have some more appropriate units for china (eg. mythical chinese creatures, special mongol units).

I still don't know how to mod the ruleset!
Modding the rules is pretty trivial for the most part. For removing you just find stuff in there you don't like and delete it. Similarly you can look at the rules and copy what is there to add nearly anything you want (excluding some hardcoded things like population and labor). After that simply put the file somewhere public on the internet (eg. dropbox) and put that in as the rule set.

There is a single thing that is annoying though: I don't know what the file names for the pictures are on Vanigo's folder, and thus I don't know how to add new special resources/terrain/improvements without recycling existing pictures (eg. ether would be easy to add, but I don't know how to currently add a icon for it if I wanted a natural source for it).

Anyways. Here is the game with all reagent, mithril, pegasus and mana units and buildings cut out. The only exception is that both the healer and the apothecary were kept in (but modded to not use reagent) as they seemed rather acceptable in the real world.

E: I think it would be pretty interesting if the highest teir of units still in (eg. foundry and calvary yard units) were removed. It would make the game tech tree still flatter, which seems like it would be a rather interesting experiment (since you would build up a teir of tech less) as well as meaning that you would have larger groups of weaker units instead of slightly fewer stronger units.

E2: If anyone could find the URL of the pictures used for the games and share them it would be a huge help.

Tip: Barbarians are savage, not stupid; they'll try to assert their dominance over other barbarians, consolidating tribes if they see one, and can be scared off with displays of force. Beware, however; they don't forget city locations, and pass on the knowledge to other Barbarians they meet.
Tip: Sometimes, City States will make requests of you depending on their relations. These requests vary based on your Favor with them. These can be found in PMs the GM sends you.
Tip: Every turn, I'm going to roll a 1d12. On the roll of 11-12, a Disaster will happen. On the roll of a 1, a Miracle will happen. These will affect different targets based on the specific Disaster/Miracle. Examples of Disasters include Barbarian Chieftains, Floods, and Plagues. Examples of Miracles include Barbarian Recruits, Bountiful Harvests, and Heroes.

Possibly.

It'll cost you other stuff, too, though. Don't try and weasel your way out of actually needing to produce troops. It's a last resort thing, not a 'you cannot die to barbarians' thing.
