Garret takes aim and prepares to throw his hand-axe but notices the newcomers approaching and sets himself up to protect Mia once again.

Garick on the other hand, keeps running, all the while yelling at the two by the gate to come protect him. Surprisingly, they did.

"Alright boys, we're here for the artifact and nothing else. Feel free to hassle just about anyone with another artifact though, it is a rather... personal job and I'd prefer if you guys stayed out of it." With that the man sprinted ahead, stopped just in front of Garret and threw two daggers at Mia, which Garret intercepted.

"Ah, good to see you're still doing your job, Garret. Unfortunately, I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment and my current employer wants artifacts. Normally I'd go steal one but I figured since you were in the area I'd collect. In simple terms, I need the artifact I borrowed you."

"Leret, you bastard... you could've asked!" The man groaned in pain and stuck his axe into the ground to steady himself. He reached onto his belt and unlatched an axe far too small to use in combat, yet had a distinctive red glow, from it and offered it to Leret who took it and quickly latched it onto his own belt. "Just... just take it... and leave Mia out... of this."

"Hmm, normally I kill everyone outside my guild that I work with... For you I'll make an exception, I guess. Instead of death by my hand... I'll leave yours and Mia's fate up to these charming individuals. I do hope that you haven't done anything to make them sore at you!"

Mia, who had seen everything happen, ran over to Garret's side and began searching for anything that would help treat Garret's wounds. There appeared to be tears in her eyes.

Edward continued on his way, making sure to stay under the cover of the trees.

Geoffrey moved closer to Garret and Mia, wondering just what the hell was going on.

"What the hell is going on?"

Leaving the girl to tend to her companion for now--surprised as he was by the appearance of her guardian and her counterattack, it wasn't like he was badly hurt or like the mercenaries couldn't subdue them now--he planted the butt of his spear in the ground and stared at the new arrival.

"Who are you?  Who's your employer?  And why do so many people seem to be wandering around with artifacts?"

[GiglameshDespair]

Sarrani hung back, patiently waiting for healing. The serene look on her face never changed.

[F.O.E.]

Leret smiled bemusedly at Martyn's questions.

"Name's Leret, as I'm sure you heard Garret say just now. And I'm only the leader of Slivertongue, the biggest guild of thieves that specialize in Artifact theft. Unless you're willing to pay me more than he is, and I doubt you can, I'm not answering your second question. And finally, do you even know how big the Artifact trade is, kid? There are, at the very least, thousands of these things out and about already with more being dug up daily. 'Course the Itolan nobles and the bigwig merchants keep the best of them and sell off the ones they don't want or aren't that powerful. Let's not forget the recent rumors that Artifacts have been found in Toubriar's desert too, but that it's the pirates who're finding them and keeping them to themselves."

"In short, Artifacts are everywhere. If you can't deal with that, move to Zhaltis or something. You might even become famous if you make it back!"

[GiglameshDespair]

A look of disapporval flickered on Sarrani's face.
"Scavengers, picking the bones of the past for scraps... Do you not hear the crying of the spirits you have disturbed, peddling tomb goods?"

[Lucus Casius]

"I have better things to do than chase legends and rumors."

"And since you're so unwilling to give a useful answer..."

He sighs.

"Get out of here, Larry.  You got what you came for, and we have work to finish."

[Omair]

Last he remembered, Ekul saw a flash of lightning coursing up his blade...then Hilde's thick accent as sweet rejuvenating energy coursed through him.

Muttering to himself,
  "Never bring a knife to a magic fight."

Showing a thumbs up to Hilde to indicate he was alive and well,
  "Thank's Hilde, next drink's on me. Give me another heal will ya? I've got to back Martyn up!"

He missed the entire artifact awesomeness, and thus was not feeling up for chatting with the enemy.

Rushing forward to 13,8, Ekul leap's a little to hit Garret's head really hard with his sword handle in the aim of knocking the big man out, uncertain if they wanted prisoners or not.

"Oh, for the love of-"

Martyn gives a long suffering sigh, shuffling in the pouch under his coat.  He produces a small vulnerary which he tosses just over Mia's shoulder, landing it neatly in her lap.


"Press this on his wounds.  I'd like to speak with both of you when this is over." 

[F.O.E.]

"Scavengers, picking the bones of the past for scraps... Do you not hear the crying of the spirits you have disturbed, peddling tomb goods?"

"Not really no. Besides the only ones I've seen came from the sand, not a tomb."

"Get out of here, Larry.  You got what you came for, and we have work to finish."

"Leret. And I was planning on it."

And then Ekul jumped at Garret, completely failed his jump, hit his belt instead, snagged 100 gold from it and then promptly returned to unconscious land via Mia's sword.

After downing Ekul, the tears having stopped for the time being, Mia looked up in time to see Martyn's vulnerary flying at her. She easily caught it and after a brief glance back at Martyn, in which he swore he heard her say "thanks", she began applying it to Garret's wounds.
