Prologue: Battle at Fort Ashon
Branen VanSantana, leader of a small band of mercenaries stationed at Fort Ashon, once again gathered the rest of the band once again in preparation for another sparring session. Everyone had to be in top shape in case Vastus decided to attack the Fort.
"I assume everyone is ready? Commander Bul said that we'll need to do some patrols later today, but for now, we're going to just have a regular sparring sessions. Everyone, save Sadie, pick a partner."

Alaistair Murray, Sadie Contreras, Pelageya Popov and Vito Gaspari are in!

Sadie sat down on the nearest bench.

"You guys have fun hitting each other with sticks! I'll be here if ya get too bruised up."

She certainly didn't mind not getting her clothes dirty and sweaty.

Pelageya quickly ran down the list of the mercenaries in her head, but it wasn't a hard decision, after all, Alaistair had a lance, and she had an axe!
:"Hey, Alaistair, wanna spar?"

Alastair sighed and rolled his eyes. If it was up to him, he wouldn't even take part in these pointless sparring matches.

"Do I have to? You're a little too eager to spar, lass. Isn't very becoming now, is it?"

"Well, if I have to, then I'll take you up on your offer. Maybe it'll cure my boredom."

Vito glanced up from his spot reclining against the wall of the fort, and immediately broke into laughter upon seeing Alastair's expression.

"Ahhh, Allie, if you were more reluctant one might even think you were frightened of the good signorina!"

He hopped to his feet, drawing his blade with a flourish and letting the tip rest against the ground.

"Quite wise.  Even I would rather not stand within reach when she starts swinging that axe of hers."

Alastair grinned at Vito. Frightened? Please.

"Then a fool would think me frightened, Vito."

He turned to the "good signorina".

"Don't give yourself too much credit, now. Maybe I'll be taking your ego down a little for underestimating me."

Alastair gripped his lance. While he was confident in his ability to win, Vito was right - she was quite formidable.

Vito gave the axewoman a crooked smile.

"Perhaps, bella, though my weakness may be caused as much by the breadth of your swing as anything else."

He winks at the horseman as he rests back against the wall, awaiting a partner of his own to declare him or herself.  Branen, perhaps, if he did not intend to simply stand around and watch.

"A man ill wishes to have his head removed while his ally leaves herself open to a clever bravazzo's strike."

Pelageya just grins wider at Vito's probable innuendo.
:"Honestly, I dunno why ya guys are so intimidated anyway. Not like any of ye are weaker than me, right? Perhaps it's my... *heh* irresistible feminine charms?"

Alastair simply scoffed.
"Irresistable feminine charms? You are a good jokester, missie."

Sadie merely placed her hands behind her head, her legs crossed at the knee, and rested back against the pillar the bench sat in front of.

"Don't go too hard on the poor dears, Pel."

Vito smirked, closing his eyes as he awaited the sounds of sparring.

"Please, do listen to la Signorina Contreras.  My poor heart cannot take this cruel taunting much longer."

:"Not making any promises, Sadie! As for you, Alastair, you claim that I'm joking, and yeeeet you're still talking to me!"

"I suppose it's true that if you don't promise anything I can't hold you to anything!"

Sadie's ponytail (as well as the long feathered tail of her cap) bounced as she laughed.

"Well, we'll see. Alastair might do better than you expect, y'know!"
