Disliking radical feminist academics and Antifa-type SJWs doesn't mean that I'm someone who downplays racism. That's a canard. Let me give you a related example:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/life/only-7-per-cent-of-britons-consider-themselves-feminists/Only 7 per cent of Britons consider themselves feminists ... When split out by gender, women were more likely to identify as feminist, with nine per cent using the label compared to four per cent of men. But men were more supportive generally of equality between the sexes - 86 per cent wanted it for the women in their lives - compared to 74 per cent of women.
So
political groups who merely
label themselves feminists want to
claim a 1:1: relationship between "being a feminist" and "believing in gender equality", but the raw data shows that this relationship is effectively non-existent. It's a classic Aristotlean logical fallacy. "A implies B" does not mean "B implies A".
"not being a 'capital-F' Feminist" is in fact almost 100% non-predictive of whether someone believes in gender equality or not. The vast majority of people in fact reject feminism as a
political force for reasons entirely unrelated to gender equity issues - they're rejecting the
movement itself because
people in the movement are generally conspiracy theorists who carry on like assholes. Saying that anyone who "rejects the movement" is "rejecting what the movement stands for" is in fact classic Cultist logic. It's what Christians do when they say that if you're an atheist you must be happy to go murdering and raping, since you "lack god". This is exactly the argument that feminists are using when they claim non-feminists are gainst gender equality: since you "lack feminism" you must be ok with raping and hurting women. It's offensive for the same reasons the Christian "atheists are murderers and rapists" version is offensive.
It's exactly the same with disliking the radical college SJW movement activists. People don't dislike them because those people "hate having racism challenged" because it's a
red herring by the SJWs that they "own" the concept of "racial equality". No ... people dislike college SJWs because they are
generaly condescending assholes to everyone. This is how one of the movement members justifies the data discrepancy:
Sam Smethers, the charity’s chief executive, said: “The overwhelming majority of the public share our feminist values but don’t identify with the label. However the simple truth is if you want a more equal society for women and men then you are in fact a feminist.
Oh wow, so the 86% of men who support gender equality are secretly feminists and they just don't know it. How silly of them. This smacks of e.g. a religious leader saying "well 86% of people say they believe in a higher power, yet only 7% believe in
my religion. However,
my religion believes in a higher power so if you believe in a higher power then you are in fact a believer in my religion, and you just need to get on board and come worship at my church". Perhaps, just perhaps, that claim of one political movement or religion to have exclusive rights over an
idea is in fact bullshit, and people are in fact
rejecting feminism because of all the
conspiracy theories that you have to adopt if you sign up with them, and not the "gender equality" thing.
