Proper tonberries typically think of them as abominations, but also members of the monster race, yet liable to turn against monsters thanks to their corrupted heritage. They watch them carefully for signs of sympathy towards humans(yes, tonberries are racist assholes).

Ton, on the other hand, would probably just be confused.

And now I must think of a race that would be naturally opposed to tonberry shenanigans. Right down to having an ability that increases in power the nicer the target is to people and heals them. And loves every single race. Except tonberries.

Tonberries are already a counter-race; mother nature's answer to monster slayers.

In the final fantasy games, if you knew your shit, you always had a healer who never got the last hit on an enemy, so that you could survive tonberry battles. They were a Demonic Spider enemy, along with malboros. I might make a malboro girl, actually.

Tonberries rarely kill monsters. The gargoyle was self/cactuar defense. Plus, nobody wants to fuck with something that can shank you to death that easily. Humans might have come up with an answer. Mother nature, pro'lly not.

It was more damage the more anything you kill. For one of it's abilities. Tonberry kings had an ability that insta-gibbed you period! Dealing 99999999 damage or something.

Just like I like Tau. Just because they're dicks doesn't mean I don't like them. Before the monsterpocalypse, they kinda had good reason to; humans did tend to slaughter any monster they saw, after all.
