What are you looking forward to most for the DF2014 release?
« on: April 03, 2014, 07:58:20 pm »

Just as the topic title says, what feature are you looking forward to most for the new Dwarf Fortress release? Me, personally, is the ability to reclaim forts at the beginning of the game.

I like that trees can be multiple tiles. But I haven't much read into it, I want to be surprised! lol

Plaaaaaaaaants. I always build agriculture-focused forts, so I plan to build the breadbasket of dorfland when the update comes.

It will be neat to try my first adventurer game. I'm a big fortress junky so it will be cool to get out and explore the new elements of the world from a different perspective.

Reclaiming NPC forts. Pouring magma on a forest. Making site claims. Wiping out sites that don't submit to my rulership. The bugs. Elf sites. Dwarf sites. Goblin sites. Conversations. Multiattacks.
Hell, I'm looking forward to everything! Except the bugs.

so many bugs

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Multiattacks, Bruising acutally doing something, NPC's having states between "I love you" and "YOU MUST DIE RIGHT NOW", The new sites (elf, goblin etc), Claiming stuff in adventure mode.

This version is going to be so much fun I WANT IT NOW :P

The new sites, visiting a retired fort, the new trees, jumping and climbing.

Anyone knows if gobbos have shocking reactions to see corpses of people they knew? would a road paved with corpses of failed sieges have a real effect on their morale now?

I asked this question in future of the fortress back in February, and the answer is yes. Unless goblins happen to not care about dead relatives/corpses as much as the other races as part of their more evil personalities, that is.

If one were to be at war with the elves, killed a siege and left the bodies to rot and then had a later siege contain family members of the fallen... Would they react upon seeing the bodies? If not, what more is required to have this happen?

Yeah, assuming you can get a relation to come, it'll happen.  You get historical figures quite often with armies now since it tries to snatch up those people preferentially.  You'll get a horror reaction out of them from other bodies.  Body dumps at tactically sound times and so on can all come into play.

What are these claims? I'm confused? I haven't heard of these? :P

Well, everything except the bugs, lol.

I'm thinking of trying to do brachiating with the new trees, though that depends on being able to actually GRAB the branches.

Also gonna do a test fort which does only fishing as it's primary industry, to test out fish extinction. Maybe.

All the adventure mode stuff ever.
And reclamation of NPC sites. Easymode embark go!

Also curious to see what the DF2014 Cacame will be. Or any other noteworthy ingame character.

Don't know about you, but I derive a great deal of pleasure from trying to invent new ways to break the game.

Personally? Sieges + climbing/jumping and multi-tile trees. I was never much of a farmer, so the new crops... not so much. I may also give adventure mode another go.

The update with digging attackers will totally ruin traps, so I'm hoping that one's as far off as possible.
