Is Peter I called Peter the Puny because he was short? :p

You're brutal if you call two-meters-high dude "puny".

I was being sarcastic at the same time as questioning why blindkitty called Peter I puny.

A-ah. I just cannot understand sarcasm sometimes. All the times :(

Sergarr is basically from what i can see a ultra-nationalist. Saying Russian soldiers are the best, acting insulted when you talk shit about Putin, thinking that just because a country is small it should allow empires to crush them, etc.

I think it was Mirrsen that was advocating smaller countries not fight back.

I think it's lovely how Putin & friends are claiming 'There's a civil war about to break out' and 'Ukraine better not use force against 'Russian-speakers' in east-Ukraine', and meanwhile Sergarr & friends are mocking Ukraine for it's supposed 'lack of fighting spirit'.
So mates, are you saying Ukraine should get it's shit together, find it's fighting spirit, and stomp the Russian agitators & special-ops using their military power, or are you with the 'they better keep their hands tied while Russia plays rope-a-dope' official position?
Putin
"Oi, Ukraine, back the fuck up."
Ukraine
"Whatever."
Putin Friendos
"Yeah, walk away bitch."

The funny thing is, West was hoping for Russia to go western since at least Peter I the Puny (know in Russia as the Great, God knows why), and it is still what it was back then - eastern barbaria, place untouched by democracy. We all could use a Reagan now, guys. Really.

You speak of democracy like it is the best thing mankind invented.
Depends on the situation- different governments are better for different things.
Democracy? It's good for peace, human rights & improving the standard of living. All of which are generally accepted as happy, desirable things.
So, given the last several millennia of government systems, in particular how they correlate to human suffering, yeah, democracy is one of the best human inventions around.

Famous people in Russian history have a trend of being huge and powerfull, really: Peter the Great was two meters tall and liked to roll metal dinnerplates up as a party trick, Alexander III was even bigger and held up a roof of his train car when it collapsed to let his family escape with no visible effort, Lomonosov was famous among his contemporaries for his habit of dragging people around by their hair and robbing robbers in the streets at night, Leo Tolstoy was a fitness fanatic who frequently had dozens-of-miles long hiking trips across the countryside, Putin knows judo really well and puts pictures of his shirtless torso everywhere as propaganda, the list goes on.

Turchynov has officially requested UN intervention, apparently.

Not that anything will come of it. Russia would most likely veto.

No way- Russia's totally concerned about the 'looming civil war' and wishes to prevent such a tragedy. Why would they veto a UN mission to do just that?

The spin machines are already warmed up, I don't think this'll be a brick so much as a pebble.

Well Russia may agree on UN peacekeepers... If they will be Russian soldiers
