@sillywhitius

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You're flying a Proto Dom. Zakus are the ones with Heat Hawks.

..you can't swap weapons during a melee due to close-range and grappling with one another.
Forgot to put that in the melee rules.

At the time I thought, "you can't switch because there's no room to pull anything." But now I'm thinking I'll allow it, but there should be a penalty for not being prepared. Which would be having to ditch your current weapon. Normally you can do that to switch without costing an action, but in the case of melee it now the only way to swap. It's still a free action, so you can still attack in the same turn.

Final answer: it wasn't allowed, but it is now! :D

Fire my bazooka at Dereth. Also shoot him with leg missiles if possible.

You can only shoot once per turn.

I'm telling you that so everyone else won't ask to fire twice. Hopefully it won't come up again.

Might as well remind everyone what the rules are!

@sillywhitius [...]

Oh, really?

You said throwing our weapon out into space doesn't count as a move, right?

Drop my Bazooka into space, and pull out my heat saber. Try to block his attacks as best as possible.

And I do believe I have a heat SABER.

Question: can another player join in a melee to support their ally?

Also, this was probably a good idea as a bare minimum: as I noted a couple pages back, being unable to switch weapons in a melee basically means that the fastest player (Rolepgeek, here), can choose to effectively lock down any opponent by just saying "I ditch my weapon and switch to my sword as a free action, and force a melee."  On top of the 50% penalty for allies attacking with ranged weapons into the melee, that also means their defenses are actually improved by doing so when compared to fighting normally.

Swap to Heat Sabre

Question: can another player join in a melee to support their ally?
I thought about this. If there were to be multi-fighter melee then I'd want to work out some entirely new mechanics for that, as well as some specific conditions.

Now an attack of opportunity on an enemy who's already engaged in a duel on the other hand.. Not sure how to handle that either. That's tough to balance, since the defender is extremely vulnerable. Melee is already rare because it takes an entire turn to get ready for it. I wouldn't want to discourage it completely by making it so either involved party could be backstabbed for an instant kill..

*thinks*

Okay, I think I've got it. Gimme a sec to write an example.

Harry engages Cromwell in melee. It's stab and block on the first round.

Second round Reuty attacks Cromwell. They both roll MOV. Reuty wins, she gets a 1.5x bonus to DMG. She kills Cromwell. Melee complete.

---

Rewind to second round. Reuty attacks. Roll MOV. Reuty wins, gets 1.5x dmg bonus rounded up. Does damage, doesn't kill Cromwell. She joins the duel melee. It becomes a multi-melee.

---

Second Round. Reuty attacks. Roll MOV. Cromwell wins. Cromwell gets a counterattack at half dmg. Reuty doesn't die, she joins the duel melee making it a multi-melee.

She DOES die. Melee continues as is, the player who wasn't attacked gets some kind of bonus for having his opponent distracted.

I think it'd get confusing if there was a dogpile with multiple players attacking either dueling mobile suit. Lemme think about it some more. For now, only two players to a melee. That rule will stand until I figure out how a brawl would work.

If you're in a melee, do you get a penalty to dodging incoming ranged attacks?

Please?

And what if their MOVs are equal?
