You take charge of the competitions, something Tolver seems to both appreciate and be just a little put out by. He was having trouble dealing with all of the newer men, but it still was originally his idea. You add the small prizes you think up, and start a competition between the spearmen along the same lines, using their spears with the spearheads unlashed and removed. You are unlucky and do not win the day, coming in about midway through the competitors. This is not entirely your fault however, as your crossbow's trigger slipped on your final shot. Tolver does excellently, as, surprisingly, does Dellman, but the winner of the day is one of your other vinteners, who gladly takes the gloves and three crowns. One of the new spearmen takes home the prize in his competition, but his victory was more due to luck than anything else, as his opponent tripped at the end of their fight. However, getting to the final round shows quite a good deal of skill and you congratulate both of them. The competitions have been a success, and your men's morale soars, and the spearmen and crossbowmen seem to be getting more used to each other.
The next morning, you notice a slight chill in the air, and note that it seems to be getting toward the end of the summer, and also of the campaigning season. You will have to find stationary work, as the winters in this part of the world are long and harsh, though not as severe as those further north. You rouse your men and get them into decent order, with a few crossbowmen going ahead as scouts and staying behind as rearguards. The miles pass by quickly and soon you are a few leagues away from the town. looking back every so often, you notice that you seem to see a strange silhouette on the horizon from time to time, although what it is is indistinguishable. Your gut tells you that whatever it is, it came from the town, and therefore is either not affiliated with the bandits, or will have to go through you to get to them. However, you have other things to worry about, as you have yet to see any sign of the rabble you set out to find.
