((Heh. We should get an OOC/Spellslinging thread while we're at it.
So with the 'Only one spell of each type' rule, I'm having trouble figuring that one out.
If I wanted to make a golem (Earth, Earth, Life), could I then not make... I dunno, a Magma Golem (Earth, Fire Life) or an elemental steed (Earth, Air, Life)?
Also, is crafting spells a matter of us throwing together the three elements and seeing what it makes, or do you want us to specify- Re: Remuthra))
I basically divide spells into levels of specificity. If you want to make a spell you can't have anything either under or over the spell you want to make. In your example, choosing golem would stop you from getting magma golems, but possibly allow you to create a elemental steed (depending on how you specify the spell, is it summoning a elemental creature, or are you creating it from existing materials like you would a golem).
You can specify, and make whatever spell you want within limits.
So in this picture if you picked the Fire Attack (a generic highly manipulable fire attack, which is extremely weak due to how broad its description is), you wouldn't be able to get firebolt, fireball, delayed fireball, or any other fire attacks at all. But if you got firebolt, you would be able to get fireball and magmabolt just fine. Similarly, if you got delayed fireball you could also get airburst fireball and anti-earth fireball (a fireball spell that is especially potent against earthen creatures and earth using magic spells).
Hope that cleared it up.
((Shows what I get for signing up for this half asleep
Can I change the elements to Strong Chaos, weak Life? If I can't, I'm good - it'll be amusing.))
I'll take that cloak of shielding, if ya please.
Also, I'm gonna do all of those things, I reckon, not just one. Let's go to the east first.
Yeah, you get to change. Would be a bit mean spirited of me to make you play this way.
A test, then. Let us be off!
Joe picks up an elemental seed and also creates a spell for later use.
Fire- Channeling the sphere of rage, the caster flies into a berserker rage, his strength, speed, and recklessness all increasing dramatically.
Entropy- This element supports the first through the sphere of Madness.
Life- Through the sphere of transformation, this element binds the caster's flesh into living steel, protecting him from harm.
You really should give your spells names when you attempt to create them, otherwise I end up naming them.
Also note that entropy is just a sphere of Chaos, and attempting to actually use entropy directly in a spell would fail.
((I think I'll have a go at creating a spell, too, just in case it proves useful. And the answers to Tack's questions interest me greatly too.))
Water, water, death - by channeling the deathly calmness of ice, the caster attempts to put nearby targets into a coma-like state, in which their thought processes stop, their breathing slows to an almost-unnoticeable inhalation every several minutes, and their body temperature drops dramatically. If the target is willing, it is much easier for the caster to induce this status, and even if the target successfully resists, it will probably find its thoughts slowing down and its limbs getting heavier.
Likewise this is good as well.
Dang, I missed this. Waitlist.

Edit
“In the distant east one of our mages has requested a team of six archmagi to help him investigate what he is sure is the tomb of MYRTA for the fifth time this century."
1. How long has this century been?
2. What is Myrta?
3. How hard is it to lose a spell?
Waitlisted (for what it's worth).
1) He meant century as in "over the most recent 100 years", not "the time period that started at the year X00".
2) You would have to ask the chancellor that question directly, and since you aren't really there...
3) Not particularly hard, but dangerous. You could even do it right now. But directly editing your memory and hacking your rewiring your brain is very dangerous. There are artifacts that do the same thing with much less risk (eg. no chance of lobotomizing yourself), but they are quite rare and valuable.
