You perch on the fountain again, and think. You try a few sentences, attempting to achieve ultimate power in one easy step. This fails, of course. However, you do discover two interesting things.
Firstly, the word Naak, 'eat', is a Word of Power.
Secondly, you figure out how to double your shout number with the same number of words.
While idly seeing if you can summon Sheogorath by shouting, "LUH DEYRA FOR!", you find a certain... texture in Luh, 'magic'. You mull it over, tasting the word for why it's that way... It feels like the words for Fire and Wind.
And it clicks.
You begin meditating on Yol. You already know Fire breath, of its destructive potential and raw power, but now you meditate upon its chaotic nature, its ability to get through both mind and material. This is an incredibly easy shout for you, as it (along with Dismay) resonates with your nature completely, but it is still much harder than firing off a shout you already know. And then, you test it.
"YOL!"The Word blasts past your jaws, but this time, it is a multicoloured burst of magic. You get your breath back, and convince one of the novice mages to be a test dummy. You shout again, and the magic wraps around the joore as it passes, building areas of focus where other spells can seep deeply within.
WORD OF POWER LEARNED: Arcane Helix! YOL, ??, ??. Fire, ??, ??.
WORD OF POWER UNLOCKED: YOL, Fire. Crack magical defences and let your spells bring terror.
This is good progress. You estimate that you can, if you pick a shout that suits your nature, learn one more shout before the mage gets back.
(I'm going to introduce some of the bigger game mechanics around now, since the 'prologue' bit is about to end. Someone post so I can tell you when the front page is updated.
