If the game is received well and we can go full-time on it we will do expansion packs some way down the road. We are dragging a massive cart full with ideas behind us all the time so we wont be short on new features and content ;)

However, we want REAL expansions like in the old days where you get a lot of new stuff and not just some random hat for 1.99. We will probably base these expansions on cultural areas like a "nordic" themed expansion or one based on arabic/oriental culture. But this is pretty far in the future and we have to see how the EA will work for us before anything else.

Are you going to add that the Battle Brothers as well as all the other NPCs are able to turn to the other side? Because it really looks a bit weird if they fight while having their back turned at eachother. Maybe color the ground circle of the figure so you can still distinquish who is who.

Great episode!

We have thought a lot about facing directions and ultimately decided against it. We do not want intrusive, brightly colored bases to distinguish fighters as this would go against the visual style we are going for and would break the immersion even more than a fighter facing just one side.

Changing the facing of fighters will create a really big confusion and will not work with the subtle bases that we are using right now. Also, facings could suggest a bonus to attacks from the back or something like that which we do not have in the game so here is even more "confusion potential" for players (we have an overwhelm mechanic when attacking one target with multiple fighters though).

Sorry for being so slow, you beat me to it again!

Here is our recent blog post with a little update on the EA and the "official" links to the videos ;):

Quote

Let's Play continued: Parts 3 and 4 (Early Access Preview)

Update Time!

Battle Brothers is now in a state that we feel comfortable releasing into Early Access. However, before being able to actually sell it there are still some minor business-related and organizational hurdles to be cleared. We'll let you know as soon as we have the date set!

Until then, maybe we can shorten the wait with some more Let's Play episodes following the adventures of the "Red Hogs". Here are two new episodes in which we take on a contract to raze a bandit hideout.

Here are his traits:

Miller: +5 Maximum Fatigue
Strong: +15 Maximum Fatigue
Dastard: Will start Combat in wavering moral state

-> This means he will start combat in a state of reduced moral that will decrease his melee skill and melee defense as well as his ranged skill and ranged defense by 5. Effects that increase his moral after that apply normally like killing an enemy and so on.

To remedy this negative trait i might go for the "Hold out" Perk in the defense tree. That perk negates all negative combat effects of bad moral. The merc will still flee when his moral is broken but he wont suffer the penalties until then.

We did some mockups to see where we want to go with the environments for tactical combat next. These things are not actually in the game yet and will need quite a bit more work before they make their way in, but it does give a good idea of what we're aiming for in the long run.

An idea for combined arms would be if you are being supported by a man with a bill hook or a spear etc... you get a bonus to melee defense due to him kinda stabbing forward and keeping them at bay? IT would give a bit of combined arms synergy and help out in those narrow corridors like the dungeons.

Glad you like the mockups!

Regarding the billhook:
We are not really happy with how it works and plays in the game. Also, a billhook used to be more of an anti-cavalry weapon. We will probably introduce another weapon called "pike" that can also attack over two tiles and rework the billhook at the same time. Maybe something like pushing an enemy back over two tiles with the pike to give your men room to shuffle around or advance.
