-snippity snip-
First level is just fine with me.

I personally like my rules in the middle. Guidelines when the players aren't murdering the townsfolk, improvised bludgeoning weapons when they are.

Also, I in no way endorse this non-existent text: Sometimes there are .pdfs of the rule books online.

I know what you mean about geeky friends. We'll always be here for you.  :P

So how are we setting up ability scores? Point buy, some sort of array, etc?

Alright, time to complain about fourth edition!
I ... don't understand. Why would anyone complain about 4th edition D&D? This is a place of wonder and excitement!

I would like to know this too. I'm currently setting up mine using the array in the PHB, which is 22? point buy.

The Feywilds, Wizards, Lack of Class Diversity, Generic Magic Items, etc.

Besides, wonder and excitement are inherent to D&D itself, not to 4th edition specifically.

Don't forget the fact that the skill list doesn't take up half a page anymore!

I'm not sure that's a bad thing, actually :P.

You can interpret that sentence in anyway you feel is reasonable.

Also, Streetwise is the new Profession.

The problem was that they balanced combat by making everything the same. It's like balancing a war game by giving every unit the same stats.

Tawarochir, could you post the world description? I wanted to start setting up my back-story.

PbP = Play by Post. That is, instead of playing in real-time over some sort of chat client (similarly to how a real-life game would be played), people play by posting on the forums. It takes longer to run combat and stuff, but it allows people with variable schedules and in different time zones to play together more easily.

Oh, yeah. That's what I meant.

Also, for those of you doing points, I'd say doing it with the 16-14-13-12-11-10 array, that one. 22 point buy? You mean from some set minimum like 8, right? I set up my first character, a Human Wizard, using that array, and it worked well enough. I used it for all the others. (Other wizard, dwarf warrior, the one time I managed to get one of my friends to write up a character sheet of a rouge named Hugh Mann)

Alright, let me explain the battle system...

This is Final Fantasy 1. We're going to run battles like this:

1. Encumbering movement stuns for a turn, moving around movement is an auto-dodge. Anything that involves teleporting and the like, if it wasn't before, is now an encounter power.

2. Otherwise, just pick a monster and spell or attack or power or whatever.

3. Turns are taken in initiative order.

MORE COMIN' LATER!

The world description is coming soon as soon as I finish fleshing it out.

So wait...there isn't going to be a battle map or anything like that? No flanking or opportunity attacks?
That's kinda odd.

I said that as a backup because I'm not sure a battle map would be easy to play on a forum. If thou hast an alternate idea, be my guest.
