So bear pacifying revealed something that's problematic about my current set up: actions that are slightly reasonable, but very difficult, (like that) are treated the same way as actions that should be very easy (see: Playergamer's attempt to walk). This would be fine if this was meant to be more on the minimalist end, but I'm more interested in the realistic end of the spectrum that is danced upon in these forums. To that end I'd like to change the rolling for general actions to resemble this:

I just think that labeling difficulties will help with this, and will also allow for skills to be more complex than merely adding to a roll (i.e. bear tamer could make calming down a bear that was fairly calm to begin with a simple action). There's a poll asking what you think of this.

I really like that system.
With only three people having voted, I think I'll wait a bit to implement it. I'll be gone from the 21st to 29th, so after that I'll work out exactly how to put that system into practice (whether or not difficulty modifies Growth points, if combat should be adjusted too, if the cut-offs are where I want them, and whether or not to keep it at 2d6 or switch to 3d6 or 4d4).

Also, waiting on Playergamer and Scapheap.

It'll happen as soon as people choose to take on more difficult quests, which should happen as soon as they're done with this quest and can equip themselves a tiny bit.

For some examples, walking is a simple action, patching up somebodies wounds is a moderate action, calming a bear is a difficult action, and trying to jump a wide chasm is an impossible action. This may or may not be incorporated into combat, depending on whether or not I can think of a good way of doing so (and whether or not your version of combat is trying to appeal to the bear's gentler nature).

I apologize for the slow movement of this game so far. I'll move the entire group forward tonight, and hopefully this quest can be finished up soon. I'll try to make sure future quests have a little bit more motion to them. BTW if you have any suggestions for this, let me know.

Just posted first character growth. If you have any complaints or questions, post 'em here. Sorry that didn't come out with the return to the inn, I wanted to give you guys a chance to talk that over so I posted it before I had character growth all written.
