"So, I'm genuinely curious - how did you become mixed with this lot? You don't look very much like a mercenary - no - I don't see a tome nor weapon on you. Maiya said, her voice lowering somewhat.

Vandertz rubbed the back of his head and looked to the side for a moment, just taking a look on the terrible ambient they were on.

"Good thing we brought supplies, I don't think this place will offer us much."

"The monsters and the desert aren't the most horrifying part at all. We found out who the 'Demon Priest' is....
The soldier made a gesture to the group to gather up before whispering the last part.

"It is Adant. You probably read about him on Terrania's books, a priest who took part in the FIRST attempt to open the gates! Somehow he is still alive, and completely insane!"

"Yeah, well I do. We went over this before, remember?"

"Yeah, I know. It'd be more fun left for me, though. Sure you don't wanna try fighting a couple of them?"

"I- What? No, that sounds terrible!" Lesan shook his head sharply. "Those things'll try to kill us, I'm not screwing around in front of 'em!"

"Get your horse to give Sophie some shade for now, then." Lycan's advice came with a knowing smile.

"Oh! Uhm... did you take this then? Uhm, yes, I am more used to using these kinds of staffs than him, so, uhm, Father Duvall was very kind and gave it to me. Uhm... any other types of staffs like this you find, please let me see them. Also, any bows? Though I suspect you have others who can use those better than me. I uhm... well, I mostly just use them when I, uhm, have no other option."

"I recognize the name Adant and heard some stuff, but I ain't one for reading books regularly. What about him?"

"Yeah, I know. It'd be more fun left for me, though. Sure you don't wanna try fighting a couple of them?"

"Only if there's nothing else to sink my axe into. Besides, I get the feeling that we'll be facing a small army of them anyways. Maybe not now but soon enough."

Lesan seemed to consider this for several seconds, shrugged, and shooed his horse over toward Sophie. After a few seconds, the horse went to stand in the shade.

Thankful for the extra shade, Sophie leaned against the horse.

"If I am not wrong, Adant was one of the priests who helped to create the religion that follows the Defender. And as the soldier over there mentioned, he took part on the first attempt to open the Gates, but on the books it says that he was killed. And even if he wasn't killed by someone before, he would be dead yet, nobody lives that much."

: "An adequate overview of the story, Vandertz. It's never explained exactly how he died while attempting to open the Gates, but most sources agree that he did. But still, this was centuries ago. No normal man could still be alive after so long."

"Still, what makes you think this 'skeleton' is Adant? It could be - or have been, rather - anyone."

"Not a good time to test my patience oldman. And I doubt "anyone" would come up to us and claim to be Adant and mention countless things that happened during the war, even parts of the first book related to the Defender. Except he was quoting it to make fun of the religion and us."
