Percy "Grimm" Grimmeth Fogeye did not find this fellow's tale overly convincing.
"Yes yes, so you say," he said rather sharply as "Heer Fogeye" finished speaking, "But what proof do you have of such an outlandish claim? I see rather little precedent for such a strange occurrence, save for the vile Undead menace of the westlands."
"As much as I loathe to say it, I agree with dear Percy. This is a rather, ah, strange thing to claim.

However, stranger things have happened, I suppose. I don't suppose you have any sort of proof, dear sir?"

"Proof? I do have the crown that naturally grew from my head, and the beard that did the same, both when I possessed this body. But I really don't see why I need to prove anything to anyone. All I want to do is get this temple up and running, then go and exterminate those pesky leftover dragons."

"If thou truly art Heer Fogeye come again, one must ask why thou hast not made thyself known to thy descendants?
Descendants who, I might add, are the current rulers of thy kingdom?"

"Because they'd ask for proof, like you are asking now, and then there'd be arguing, intrigue, complaining and the Moon only knows what else. And also because I don't see how it would help matters any - not like there's any other person I could entrust this to, is there? Problem would be solved already if there was. Better to just get things done myself and then leave the way I came. More efficient, you know."

>Ask this supposed King for a more plausible explanation, whilst studying his face for any signs of family resemblance.
Keep an eye on his "subjects", too- take note if they seem to be acting in a threatening manner.

He doesn't really resemble any of you. But he does seem to be saying that he's currently possessing the body of another, so that means the body itself might not be related to the Fogeyes in any way. His subjects, or rather workers, seem to be busy working and not really paying that much attention to him.

>Try and think if there is any family history of folks coming back from the dead centuries after their demise.
Also, am I wearing my armour, currently? I don't believe I was, but who knows.

While you're pretty sure your family doesn't have a history of undeath, your known family history does only stretch back for slightly over a century, or four generations in total, with Heer Fogeye being the first, and only having died about 80 years ago, and you being the fourth generation.

Also, whether you are wearing armor or not depends on whether you consider a road in the middle of the woods without any notable travelers to be 'civilization'.

Don attempts to recall depictions of Heer Fogeye from his studies, surely someone with such a command of language would have much information recorded about him. In the meantime, continue conversation cordially "Well, there actually has been more then one occasion where my brother attempted to enact taxes on my father. I recall that he succeeded twice, due to obscure legal precedents forgotten by everyone but him. It was quite the show" At this Don chuckled, attempting to defuse the situation

"Not that it really matters, of course. Never in my first life have I paid tribute to any lord, and I certainly don't intend to start on this little excursion."

Wallace had quietly considered the situation for a few moments.  While the legal issues concerning a no-longer-deceased king were not his specialty (though he had an inkling there was precedent at least somewhere), the fiscal side of matters was more his concern.  That said, there may be an out.

"If we are discussing an addition to the King's Lands, which this would be if the construction is initiated by the... a... king, then many of the permits and fees essentially do not apply.  The land and property would need to be properly accounted for and scribed into the records, however.  Do you have a land usability report?  Has anyone appraised the preexisting property?  These things must be accounted for if we wish to maintain balanced books."

"You know, legal fees aside, this man claims he wants to kill the dragons. Ergo, he must posses some way of doing so. So, why don't we simply ask for his help in the matter, and leave the legalities of this temple for those who haven't been send on a suicide mission by their senile father?"

Wallace sighed.  He had heard this one before.  "We cannot just disregard rules and order.  If we do, the finances will be ignored, bills will rack up, accounts will go out of balance, and the kingdom will fall into disarray.  No, rules and order must be maintained.  I suppose that if he comes along, then we can come to an equitable arrangement on the way."

"We shall discuss this amongst ourselves a moment."
Without waiting for an answer, Grimm ushered his brothers a few steps away from the so-called 'Heer Fogeye', so that they might talk privately.

Princely huddle!
Well, you know, without the actual 'huddle' part. Just standing together discussing things a short ways away from this creep.
"As much as I am loathe to trust some madman calling himself our ancestor back from the dead, I must admit that if he's telling the truth... well, it could save us a great deal of trouble. After all, Heer Fogeye did supposedly deal with the dragons when he was alive, so who knows, perhaps he could do so again. I'm sure he would at least provide a decent distraction to the beasts for a time, weakening them whilst we dealt with the other Plagues."
He glanced between his brothers, thoughtfully stroking his fledgling moustache.
"If only there were some way to tell," he muttered, then looked towards Wilril with some reluctance.
"Wilril, brother, you know the most of such matters between all of us. Do you happen to have any means of determining the truthfulness of the man's claims?"

To Don, he said, "And Don, perhaps you could ask that... 'seer' of yours?" He grimaced lightly.
"It is past time she... or rather, it proved her usefulness to this expedition, I should think."

Princely Huddle, as above.

"If I had access to the archives, I could ask him of financial questions dating back to then that were king's eyes only.  Though it may be hard; some of the record keeping back them was rather... substandard."

Don, after sitting slightly short of the "princely huddle" surveys the possibilities his brothers have put forth

I must say that I agree with Arcus in this matter. Whether he is the reincarnation of our ancestor or not, he at the very least has the will to fight the dragons, and very well could have the means, which may I remind you we are woefully uneducated in.

Next he turns to Wallace

And Wallace, while I certainly agree that the beaurocratic issues you are so fond of are necessary, I must point out that the potential finances of the kingdom only matter so long as the kingdom continues to exist, and thus I would posit that the financials take a definite backseat to acquiring any help offered.

Ignoring Wallace's objection, Prince Grimm nodded a bit at Don's words, absently stroking his meagre beard.
"Yes... if this madman truly has the means to deal with dragons, he shall be a great help whoever he may be. Better yet, we could let him deal with them himself and save us the trouble." The young prince paused a moment, following that train of thought with narrowed eyes, then chuckled softly and continued in a lowered voice.

"Even if not, well, the fool has a good few followers- I imagine they could distract our scaly friends for a time, whilst we dealt with the other Plagues. We did decide upon one by random chance, after all- and I doubt every foe has an ally conveniently positioned to fight them. What say the rest of you?"
He glanced between his brothers with a raised eyebrow, hands resting on his hips.

Talking! Let's try and actually decide on a course of action, already!

"I had a scribe to attend to that sort of thing once, but I remember ordering him hanged for boring me on my deathbed," the man recalls wistfully. "I think they hanged him, too, amusingly enough. The room was a lot livelier the next few days, that was for sure."

"The question of family be damned, how do you plan to kill the dragons of old? Do you expect also that a sword will sprout from your arm?"

"Well, if they were the dragons of old, they would be very easy to kill indeed. Would hardly even need a sword in that case."

Hey, guys! I just had a thought!

Now, as I'm sure you've noticed, this game has pretty much come to a quiet, whimpering halt after I dropped the ball big time on timely updates for a bit. The reason why it came to such a halt is pretty much that the formula I'd gone with for updates seems to work much better with the recruitment and preparation stages of the adventure than the rest of it. Didn't really mesh too well with any actual adventuring, to be honest. And also the trouble with introducing loads and loads of characters is that you have to keep track of them all, which can become slightly problematic. I'd like to resume running this, obviously, but the trouble is that it seems about 80 percent or so of the player base has already left for greener pastures on account of certain poor GMing habits and having better things to do than wait three weeks for a dialogue update.

This brings me to a thought! I'd certainly like to resurrect this in some form, and I would also enjoy bringing another RTD of mine back from the dead as well, Prophets of the New God. So, combining the world concept from this and the player setup plus divine mechanics of that, I could potentially make a combination game that could sort of work if made while keeping the general lessons learned from the demise of both in mind.

So you see, I think that's a good idea, since both the setting of this and the mechanics of PotNG largely went unexplored during the runtimes of the respective games. Question is, does anybody still around here think it's a good idea?
