You know what?  It's fine.  It's fine, everything's o-okay.

You don't need divine intervention anyways.  Yes, your friend got killed, and...yes, he was a...a heathen, but that's okay.  It's all okay, you're a grown-up, and you're at Shielddawn, and right now you're a hauler, but you'll work your way up, you'll see!  You'll be a cheesemaker, and you'll make new friends who don't get killed right away.  And, and the Queen - yeah, the Queen will be so impressed by how great you haul everything and make cheese that she'll make you one of the Royal Cheesemakers of the Royal Cheesemaker Corps, and you'll get your own bedroom and a Royal Backpack and everything will be okay and no one will make you feel like a kid again!

You're an adult, and they need to treat you like one, even...even if the Cowsea and Urist won't answer you, and even - even if your dad wouldn't let you leave, and even if you needed saving that one time, and even if you can't stop freaking crying okay???

Everything is okay.  Everything will be fine.

Just...just as soon as you throw your friend in the garbage, like the Overseer told you to do.

Right.  The...garbage piles.

...Oh gods.

Oh gods.  Oh, oh no, oh gods.

You can't.

You just, you can't.

You can't do this.

Not in there.  Not like that.  Darkerdaffodil, he...you...

...

You need to be alone.

Wait, wasn't end of Chapter 2 when we got here? Which was... 3 updates ago?

Very dramatic - and realistic, both in game and "how would a  young person react to this".  Dwarven refuse piles are horrifying even for dwarves, that's why many haulers cancel their jobs!

I see why someone would feel that way, but look at the first post - there has been a fair amount of stuff that has occurred since.

And the plump helmet man plot.

Every time you guys like a character, misty gets a little less screen time.  Chapter 4 is gonna be a bit more exciting, at least. Ive been looking forward to it.

Late happy birthday, thread.

I think Misty's only survived something like six hours.
Since making it to Shielddawn, do you mean?
I dunno, they never mentioned camping or anything. If we got any "Three days on the road later..." style observations I've forgotten about them.

Yeah, I don't recall any night-scenes or timecards, but based on that map, it seems like they'd have to have been on the road for more than a day. I figure it was morning of the second day when they met the elves. Besides, she's likely been at Shielddawn for at least six hours, because of three reasons:

1) Corpses are heavy, even if their previous owner was dainty.
2) In most forts I've played, it takes about an in-game day to haul three objects from the Depot to their correct stockpile. ( On average. )
3) Fortress mode time is considerably faster than Adventure mode time.

Bonus reason: Misty is probably below average in strength, which even given her High Agility, would mean that she would be greatly encumbered by hauling an object that is assumable to be at least her size.

Not related to timeline speculation: I really like how you deconstruct and bring harsh realism to everything we players take for granted. Which is why:

Misty observes a forgotten beast attack, A vile force of Darkness arrives, or the Dead Rise

I want to see such pedestrian, blassé, events become horrifying and seen through the eyes of a little girl... To rightly see just how much these things would actually effect the dwarves.

ftfy  :P
It doesn't even have to be the eyes of a little girl, just to see the events happen in a more realistic portrayal than ascii tiles would probably be enough...

Misty: Go down into the caverns to be alone. Watch any of those fancy underground trees and think it as Darkerdaffodil's reincarnation.
Lumberjack: Cut the tree down before Misty's eyes.
Dead: Rise.
