Nashonrimtar Alnis („Bloodycastle of War”)

Basic info:
- I'm playing Masterwork mod with all new features on
- Civilizations in the world - Dwarves, Taiga Orcs, Cutebolds, Humans, Elves, Drow, Gnomes, Kobolds, Goblins, Orcs, Frost Giants, Warlocks, Gremlins
- World: Medium Region

The Prologue:

Once upon a time there there was a great Dwarven civilization called „The Larval Dread”, ruled by a wise and old king Lorbam Potgamed the Fiendish Bane of Brass, who in the last 100 years won 14 great battles against his sworn enemies – The Splatter of Guarding civilization of wicked ferric elves and the badass goblins of The Unionized Hexes. In the middle of a succesful campaign against goblins called by historians „The War of Executioners”, after several battles – mainly the great victory called „The Onslaught of Crucifixions” during which the whole city was pillaged, the wise king declared that a new fortress must be built, to protect the realm from enemies. Its name, Nashonrimtar Alnis, The Bloodycastle of War!

And so, he called for his best advisor – Urist McUselessnoble.

- We have just won our great battle and pillaged the Colormenaced. What shall we do to secure our borders?
- A hard question this is. We should not do anything and do not do nothing. This will let us do something.
- Meh, you’re as useless as a piece of pork at a Jewish wedding.

He then turned to a young woman with a great axe and he got englightened at a second.

- We shall build a castle!
- But my liege. Our castles die after a year on average. And I swear, sometimes just after embarking they got eaten by giant zombie elephants.
- Shut up or I will use your guts to feed my pet sperm whale.

Urist understood in a minute and as he was master of anger management, he decided to shut up.

- What is your name, woman?
- Kol Uzolimik.
- Well, Kol, how would you like to be an expedition leader to enchanted, serene plains? Well, more like a hell perhaps, but still it’s a lovely place.
- It would be an honor, my liege.
- Then it’s settled. You can’t get your word back. You will lead expedition of our finest dwarves and set up a great fortress on our borders! And remember, losing is fun!
And so Kol Uzolimik led a great expedition of five dwarves chosen personally by Urist McUselessnoble. They set up approximately in the middle of the road between two great dwarven fortresses, to protect trade and fight goblin bandits.

The Saga begins!

- This place is as good to die in as any. – Kol said. – Everybody, unpack! We’ve got a fotress to build!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

She picked her banner and raised above her head. Long live the Nashonrimtar Alnis!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

FUN FACT: The banner of the Nashonrimtar Alnis was originally made of white cloth but it was dyed in blood of enemies slain by Kol on her way to the future fortress.

Kol Uzolimik:

And here we are. I am going to start our fortress's ledger, covering all of the important facts and news. After I die or after they're going to force me out of my office, my successors are going to keep it.

I ordered pastures to be organized. One for our boozebelly goats, one for our sheep and one for our tuskox. Mastiffs are going to be loose for a while.

We also set up some farms. Soon our plump helmets and cave wheat are going to grow and maybe we will survive this hell after all. I love poetry!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Very soon we discovered that very shallowly under the surface there is a lot of sandstone and even some jade and rose quartz. Our main digger, Uvash Nalthishstal is doing his job well and soon we shall have a great space to set up our buildings in.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It wasn't that long after we established our first village underneath. We set stockpiles, first workshops and kitchens.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Summary:
- Food - some food we took with us should suffice for some time, then we will have plump helmets and fish from nearby stream.
- Booze - we took some booze with us here but we will soon establish decent brewery.
- Stone - we've got a lot of sandstone to use.
- Gems - a lot of rose quartz and jade.
- Metals - none yet.
- Weapons and armors - we have my basic iron armor and my beloved axe. Also, we can use our picks.

I will finish this page with summary of our new immigrants. It seems that Urist is not that useless after all.

- Astesh Ezukzotir - decent blacksmith and tanner, we can use her in the future
- Atir Onolgolud - good stone engraver and architect
- Udib Mulashludor - good ranger
- Zovit Zevutbobrur - good brewer

Kol Uzolimik:

We had our first battle. Two leprechauns threatened one of our builders. We made potpourri out of them.

I hate your guts little fella!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've ordered our future dining hall to be smoothed and later engraved.

With autumn we had 6 new immigrants. Two good fisherdwarves, smith skilled in metalcrafting and weaponsmithing, farmer, armorer and a shearer.

Later in autumn our caravan arrived with annoying liaison of course. Urist McUselessnoble retarded brother. Our lack of luck as a nation is legendary I guess.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The same time couple of gnolls decided to come and join us. We gave them hell!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Armok will be pleased.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Soon Rheus Macaques joined too but ran away as soon as they saw us.

As to the caravan, we didn't have much to trade. We only traded some sandstone blocks for some food and booze.

On the beginning of spring another caravan reached our castle - Drows from far lands. We sold them some sandstone crafts and block for steel bars and booze.

In the spring Urist McUselessnoble decided to have his revenge on us for surviving this long. He sent us no more than 30 new immigrants. Of course those include some skilled farmers, doctors and couple of rangers but how are we supposed to feed them?! I decided that some change is need to be made with more dwarves responsible of fishing, hunting and more farms established. Survival is going to be a tough one but come on world! Bring all you've got on us and we're going to do just fine!

Soon after one of the newcomers claimed our workshop. What a...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

He must be another of Urist's kin.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

- It's ok you claimed our workshop blocking our production for a while. It's ok that you're such a self-concious jerk. But why the hell you made only one gauntlet?
- I only had one bone.
- ...

By the end of the spring we have finished great mead hall with engraved walls, quarters for the most important dwarves, my quarters and office and also a sculpture garden. We also began to fortify our grounds.

Kol Uzolimik:

This page I have to start with reports of 2 thieves. We killed them before they were able to take anything but still - it makes me worried that we don't have our walls ready yet. I commanded more dwarfs to take part in their construction. We got to make use of our new citizens.

To the better topics, I've inspected some of the engravings in our mead hall today. I really want them in my bedroom too.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We worked hard on building our walls as the thieves and leprechaun attacks started piling up and ending with one of the leprechauns stealing a soap. Now they're not going to stink so much making them harder to sense.

Also it wasn't much time till a new immigrant wave arrived, adding 14 dwarves and making the whole population as huge as 55. Fortunately, due to good organization we're still having enough food even without slaughtering our animals yet.

For the good part, I was chosen to be an expedition leader for the third term and our masons have finally finished the walls! On the first day of autumn we were finally safe from barbarians! But it is not over, I want to thicken the walls, make towers and fortifications for our marksdwarves!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Summary:
- Food - we do not have problem with hunger, even after several new waves of migration. However we need to expand our food industry, perhaps by more farms.
- Booze - we are producing enough booze but it's for now. We need to expand it as fast as possible. I've already ordered production of hives to create honey industry and produce mead later. We love mead.
- Stone - still, a lot of. Some we export.
- Gems - haven't started gem industry yet but it's on the way.
- Metals - some steel we're going to use to make weapons soon.
- Weapons and armors - some captured weapons as well as mine.

This page I end with a prayer. May Armok bless our picks and bring horror upon those who want to destroy us.

Kol Uzolimik:

This page is less optimistic than the last one. I have to start with news of our woodcrafter going berserk and assaulting me. Thankfully I was able to defend myself and our hammerer finished the job by chopping his head off. I was wise to start building the coffin chamber some time before this happened. I really and honestly do hope there will not be a tantrum and I keep praying to Gorroth, the god of fortresses, war and victory to help me in the days to come.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Soon after this, 11 new immigrants arrived, stretching our supplies and forcing us to strengthen our food and booze industry much quicker. It really seems that we're getting famous back home! Urist must be mad.

I also made the biggest trade in our short history. Our crafts seems to be valued greatly. For several bins of them we bought a lot of food, some booze, seeds, weapons and above all - 3 iron bars and 1 gold bar!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Meanwhile, we've finished our tomb and began smoothing walls and floors all around our fortress!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We're also making a steady progress with constructing new homes for our citizens.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It really seems like we're going to prevail after all!

Tomb statics:
- Only three dwarves died since we moved here. I think that we've set up a new record!

Military report by Eral Saramrozsed, the Military Commander.

Currently we have three squads - one commanded by me personally, The Anguished Bolts, another of wrestlers - The Controllers of Menacing and an archer squad - The Torched Skulls. Since we settled we had only one death in action.

Weapons:
- Two copper chopping axes
- Iron chopping axe
- Two large silver daggers
- Iron shortsword
- Several crossbows.

Armor:
- One set of iron armor.

Threats:
- A lot of thieves recently, including babysnatchers
- Frequent nymph, gnoll and troll attacks
- Occasional leprechauns
- No goblins yet but we know that they're there, watching us and fearing our might.

As I write this there are news of another attack. Seems like a dozen of gnoll again.

Ineth Bothonatast, Mayor

SoRRy I cannot wright as gud as oders but i am just 7 yr old.

Kol Uzolimik:

It's been several months since my last update in our ledger. We expanded our booze industry greatly, as well as farming. Our farms currently grow plump helmets (mainly), cave wheat, pig tails and recently also prickle berries. This, however, had its bad side - drunken dwarves decided that 7 year old kid is the best candidate to be mayor and they decided I should be only captain of the guard in our town instead. What a shame on all of you!

Anyway, even though this little **** being a mayor, I still have to do all the management! And I had to move to a small quarter from my old, luxurious one.

But let me get to other facts:
- We have finished our hospital
- We bought some iron from traders in exchange for our masterfully made crap crafts and booze
- We finished part of our housing program.

Also, some pictures:

Booze industry:

New Sculpture Garden and expanded food stockpile:

New farms:

Anyway, things are not looking bad and we are expanding. After we'll open smithing industry, which is going to happen pretty soon, we're going to really start our road towards independance.

This entry is going to be about our first attack by the goblins who ambushed our village.

They came out of nowhere and brutally murdered one of our hunters.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The human caravan stayed at our depot near the entrance, thankfully heavy guarded.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

With little help of our human friends we have slain them all in minutes.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Time for a good ol' goblinite! Maybe we can sell this crap good stuff to the human caravan?

Ineth Bothonatast, Mayor

Eral Saramrozsed, the Military Commander

Not long after the first ambush we had to deal with the next one. A bunch of stupid goblins thought that they can beat us.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Army is gathering behind safe walls to launch a counter-attack but what's that? Little Ineth Bothonatast is striking against a kobold thief while goblins are marching towards her!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

She killed the thief but where are all the soldiers? Is anyone going to help her?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

- Come on! Bring all you've got!
- Who the hell is she?
- Dunno but I'll use her head as a piss pot!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

She ran away but can she escape the goblin menace?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh no, she died! But fellow dwarves are going to avenge her!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Mayor's grave. May she rest in peace.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Bottom part of the inscription says "obur" which means "hero". Even though she was as stupid as a box of rocks, she died rather bravely.

Kol Uzolimik:

From her inauguration speech:

- Citizens. We survived another attack and I am proud of you. Losing a mayor is a great tragedy, especially in such gruesome way, but what the hell. I am mayor again!

Battle report by Kol Uzolimik

A freezer thief and a group of goblins attacked our fortress at the same time. Even though drows took part in our defense, 17 dwarves died during the siege. Attackers were massacred.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The new population is 126 adults, 6 children and 17 babies.

Kol Uzolimik

Fire! Fire! Fire! - rang the bells of the Nashonrimtar Alnis as everything was covered in smoke.

- The drow caravan caused a fire! They are all burning now!
- How... how? Why would they do that?
- I don't know. Happened to me once when I was prisoner in an orc fortress. They caused it there too. I heard there were two freezer thieves trying to steal from us and they caught'em. Maybe they used dem magic or whatever.
- Damn it. Now the drows are going to blame us for this. Holy sh**.
- Armok be praised!

Further investigation explained that fire made circle and stopped on our walls which seemed impenetrable for it. All beings in the middle of the circle suffocated to death, including a couple of dwarves, thankfully no one essential.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Drows seemed to survive the fire along with their spiders. Same with freezers, who were now chased by the spiders. Thankfully spiders left a lot of valuable silk for us.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Unfortunately fire continued to spread, burning the whole ground around our fortress.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Soon we were able to see that the whole place looked just like after a magma flood.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

If you think that we ended up with a lot of free stuff... well... you're wrong. All we got was couple of weapons and armors from dead guards. Drows managed to rescue their wagons somehow.
