I think I would support ranks. Would be handy when assigning squads and squad leaders, as well as help in situations where there's no clear assigned leader (if only IC).

But if we do, we might have to wait for generals to get back to promote peeps. Cause promoting isn't really a thing done by consensus normally. And I doubt pw would like to do it all himself.

Tinkerers and Heph guys have weird fetish for weapons. Not that I don't understand it, guns are quite fun to mess with, but can anyone come up with new aux systems; machines, programs and such? For example Maurice created that nice Remote Diagnosis program (btw mission 17 guys, remember to give him permission to use it on you. So far only Lyra, Bartolomew and Lars have given permission).

Hey, I've 'tinkered' more AUX things than guns!  And I have lots and lots more ideas, but I just have other priorities right now.

And considering the only serious weapon that I've designed ended up being so effective it had to be OOC nerfed, I'm probably gonna stick to AUX and other non-weapon systems.  Kinda ironic considering I'm probably the most fetishistic about guns IRL.

I propose it to be 'Hoobastank'.

No.  That could theoretically come up in conversation.  Anways, we can use lots of other things, 'cause so many choices point the same way that was going.    Sorry.

@Rank talk

I always overcomplicate things, but I'd do something like the five-rank system, and append number of missions and abbreviations for skills.  So, "General-11 Milno, deW/cU".  Or "Rookie-2 Saint, w/Am".  Neither of those accounts for equipment though, and that's often way more important.

Alternatively, a class system could work- just assigning people 'medic', 'shooter', 'amper', etc.  It's more helpful at a glance, but doesn't really provide much information;  Does that medic use an amp, a manip, a gun, or is he just a noncombatant?

I'm personally all for ranks, but I think we'd need more than four. And the generals rank is basically filled to capacity already, so that would leave the rest of us with only 3 ranks. I'm volunteering for the commissar-equivalent role, should we ever actually use ranks, by the way.
Oh noes, that would entitle you to shoot our Generals should they ever show signs of cowardice or incompetence! :P

Like, never.

Also, ranks would be fairly cool to have as long as we keep the fluidity and possibility of quick rise. On the chance another Miyamoto is ever thawed by Steve, we should allow for a quick rise and even be ready to make room for the fourth general. That sort of lack of utter rigidness might save us one day.
I agree with idea of professional specialisation. Perhaps there should be a double title consisting of both rank and role? E.g. 'Adept Marksman', 'Lieutenant Infiltrator' etc.
Just one more thing I learned personally is that ranks as 'ability to command' should not be mixed up with ranks as 'competence and skill'; truly, sometimes they coincide, but not always. Given that we seem to be more interested in ranks as capability and reliability rather than pure commanding skill, latter could even be moved to a specialised role or even a sub-role denotation (present only on the wiki, rather than in the official title).
As for actual rank names and order - don't know. Perhaps reserve a next-to-highest level for Simus and potential characters of similar position and authority? Or should she be considered a (lesser) General of a sort?

Frak, we could actually go with medals and awards then as well! Except no purple hearts. For already pointed out reasons :P

You don't need purple hearts. You just give them their own heart in a jar.

Not very easy when you're only a head when you get back to the sword.

Here you go, have some heart paste. We got it from somebody's squished heart. Pretend it's from yours.

Lars

Lars is only competent because he follows the will of the divine.  With Steve's blessing, he cannot fail.

Too badly.

Especially because one of Steve's Ten Commandments is "Thou shalt always prepare a dynamic bonus before using advanced amps."  :P

That's the thing, though; time was on our side.  In a tense combat situation, you can't charge a bonus for every move.

I'm not sure whether Dubley would count as a rookie, adept, or hazard. Maybe he's in a gray area between the three.
Anyways, I'm in favour of a ranking system like that.

True enough, but (leaning OOC here) why have cool toys if you're not going to use them?

Also, he has a nuke.

I see. Who needs dynamic bonuses when you have nukes?

Currently Cecil is still definitely a Rookie.

Aiming for Adept, but I can easily see myself becoming a Hazard.

((I'm not Tinkering, though. :P
But yeah, piecewise tends to get terse when someone throws a big action like that at him. I'll edit the latter half out, for now.))
well you did ask for like 14 turns worth of knowledge as a single action ;)

he would have to simulate all 14 of those turns to give an accurate answer.
