I'll put it this way: they got a lot of research done, but when the ear worm first appeared, other members of staff joked that it was probably a new STD spawned by the sexual lifestyle of the scientists.

I never read through the other missions so I didn't know.

Right, for your information, the 'ear worm' I mentioned was an eldritch lifeform from an anomalous area. It was a sentient sound that could spread to people who hear it. It basically spread throughout the facility and caused the deaths of the people there in an attempt to return to its home.

What do you expect? Its an eldritch life form with very limited understanding of humans, its much easier to break a person being possessed than to persuade them. Far easier to play on their fears than to convince them. What you must understand is, if it uses fear, it sees immediate responses, if it uses persuasion, it may not even notice any significant changes in behavior. I doubt it understood that it was using fear, or what fear is. I doubt it even understood mortality in the same way humans do, after all, its an entirely alien form of life with different processes that resided in an area where even the laws of physics were quite different.

Well... it's kind of boring. When was the last time an eldritch entity wasn't all murdery whether intentional or not?

It is rather difficult for something with entirely different thought processes and physiology NOT to be murderous. In fact, even something somewhat alien can easily be murderous without intent. Mission 1 proved that, it involved a race of sentient crystalline beings with a somewhat alien culture but distinct commonalities with humanity. The HMRC units killed them all. Xenocided them all. Made them extinct in an agonizingly painful way. They did not even realize it at first.

In the case of eldritch lifeforms, they are the humans in that case and we are the crystals. I would imagine it is not so much a cliche as much as it is the statistical likelihood, something that the first players even demonstrated. The only difference, is that the commonalities have been reduced and the roles reversed.

That would be the equivalent of saying that humans killing each other, casinos making money and quantum tunneling not randomly teleporting people to the other side of the galaxy are cliches.

After all, those all also happen as statistical likelihoods.
