Well, at first it seemed like C was going to be a capable, experienced team of heavy-hitters...
...And then people got shuffled in and various vets got shuffled out. I'm not complaining, it'll probably be hilarious.
I'm a heavy hitter.

Are you though? What exactly has Xan accomplished since he got changed?

Nothing with my shapeshifting, because I'm a wuss and Xan sucks ass at controlling it. He did, however, get remarkably more dangerous with amps.

Does he have the microwave amp? Because if he does I'm expecting a reverse version of what happened in Frozen.

I'm basically Evil Jim, only kinda not.

If Xan's a heavy hitter, he's one more likely to hit our team than the enemy. :P

Message the Armoury Master:
Quote from: Simus -> The Armoury Master
I need a bit of advice regarding Organochemistry or Neural Connector amps (much more likely the former) - during the space battle, a member of ARM came into the control room and attempted to detonate a nuclear device. He was subdued, and is imprisoned, but we can't be sure whether or not he was acting of his own free will. Is there any way, without the use of amps (as we have nobody to use them, nor even the means to manufacture them yet), to determine whether someone has had their mind manipulated?

Isn't the Sword outside of real space right now? I was under the impression that ships at FTL were rather incommunicado, since travel is subjectively instant, but objectively takes years. So you can talk to Steve (who is not on any one given ship), but not any of the crew, until the ship arrives a few years down the line.

Here's how I'm seeing it (and I could very well be spouting nonsense) - they're still in transit from our subjective view. From their subjective view, they have already arrived, since, if I recall, the jumps are instantaneous from the perspective of the passengers. However, QE communications (which I'm assuming pretty much all communications with Steve, the Sword, and probably other ARM ships if they need to come to Hephaestus are using) operate instantly, so the subjective view doesn't really matter. So that begs the question - in the true, objective view, are they still mid-transit or have they arrived? Right now, I'm assuming the latter.

They haven't arrived objectively. We know that because years of objective time pass between departure and arrival of the ship. Even if it took a microsecond of subjective time for the AM to respond, and she is not in stasis like the rest of the crew and inmates/operatives, she would not be able to respond until the ship reached its destination, as travel is subjectively instant. Therefore, she can't respond to you until the ship arrives, which it hasn't yet.

Honestly, I have no idea (I did warn you) - you're probably right (in which case, I will switch to asking Steve direct), but it might just depend on how PW wants it to go. Still, you're probably right.

Space travel happens like this:
The ship accelerates to near-c and makes its way to a jump point. Said jump point might not even be in the same system.
The ship passes through the jump point. Some (random, could be a day or could be many years) objective time lost.
The ship continues travelling at near-c towards its destination, which might not even be in the same system.

So depending on where and when the Sword is, you can either contact it or not. Even if you can't, I'm certain the QEC has an inbox and they'll receive the message as soon as they are able.

I find it more likely that they'll receive the message instantly, but, either through being in stasis or under effects of extreme time dilation, will not be able to respond to it until after the ship arrives. The only way you might be able to still contact the ship is if it's not yet at the departure jump-point, since not a whole lot of time has yet passed since it left Hephaestus.

Anyway, it won't hurt to try and ask. Worst case scenario, you'll receive a spontaneous reply a couple years later. Probably with a loud *beep* of your wristpad, while trying to remain hidden from a nearby sentient crime against laws of physics that we've inevitably cooked up by then.

I remember someone saying way back that the UWM basically genocides any possible alien civilisations before they could become a threat, with the notable exception of ones the UWM tries to avoid. Would pissing off the scary ones be a good idea? Would humanity actually stand a chance against them? We could pull an Arcturus Mengsk, and smash the UWN while it's fighting off an alien invasion.

We could probably do the space-age equivalent of poking the hornets' nest with a stick and running away while everybody else is screaming... ...I meant the hornets' nest quite literally there. ;)

Welcome back gwg.

Do me a favor though, and try not to get yourself in trouble again. You've been muted 2 times now, and I wouldn't be surprised if next time it'll be straight up banning. All those posts, all those years of building up relations with people in the forum will be wiped away. So please, from now on, try to be the better man and don't get drawn out again. For your sake.

@space comms: I suspect that pw won't make an issue out of it. Because, if he played it totally straight, it would just really complicate things for no real gain.

Indeed. Might wanna check the newbie section of the wiki (see my sig).
