Yeah, he's bound to Celebrimbor.  That shows up pretty quickly and was announced before the game was even released.  The end of the game pretty much states that he's going to go create a new ring.
Well, I have no idea how it works out after the credits roll in the land of Middle Earth, but I doubt he overthrew Sauron considering he remained until the end of the Third Age.

They left off in the midst of a cliff-hanger.  Talion/Celebrimbor said "It's time to forge a new ring," whilst looking out at the camera dramatically and then it cut off.  They have plans for DLC (there was a season pass and multiple plans available to the public about the DLC currently in the works) and it wouldn't surprise me if they were going to create a sequel.  The question of "Is it going to stay cannon" is a rather large one that I still see floating around.

Who knows?  We might be pleasantly surprised.

Well clearly Celebralion will sacrifice enough top-level orc warlords to create a null ring, even more powerful than the One Ring, and use it to retroactively become Sauron by nullifying the old one from continuity  :P

(I haven't read the Silmarillion but I know some of the lore, particularly from ToME and some friends.  I think they're respectful of the lore, considering it's a AAA game)

As far as I'm concerned, it's a fanfiction. So they can do whatever the fuck they want with it, I don't care. Topple sauron and end the War of the Ring befor it even begins? Why not, just make the gameplay enjoyable.

So, bit of speculation that I don't think I've seen here yet, at the end of the game when Talion is looking out over Mordor and makes his cliffhanger statement his eyes change color for a moment.  I know they became silver, but did anyone else notice that they seemed to take on the Hand of Sauron's eye color there for a moment?  That really bright orange-ish color?

Could it be possible that when Talion retrieved Celebrimbor he might've tacked on an extra passenger?

If that's the case I predict a tacked-on "morality" slider, copied straight from every game with blue/red choices ever.

The whole morality slider thing doesn't bother me except that games with it tend to pretend to be more.  "Ohh, your actions have consequences!"  "You totally won't choose one of the two paths and be penalized for ever deviating!"  As an added dimension of gameplay in a game which has already proven itself to me, could be great.  Dawn of War 2:  Chaos Rising did a great job with it (particularly since it rewarded slipping to chaos, and also made it hard to undo).

I agree, it really depends on how they do it. Back when Fable first came out you pretty much decided right there in the Tuorial if your dude was good or evil, and trying to find a balanced approach just kinda left a bland bloke.

I also hope they present choices that go beyond "RESCUE KITTEH" or "SHOOT KITTEH".

But I can really see Talion going to increasingly drastic means to fight Sauron, to the point where he almost becomes the new Big Boss of Mordor himself. I mean, you're allready kinda put into that position, since you allready drafted 5 Warchiefs before tackling the black Hand. Talion would be more than capable of turning the entire population in Mordor against Sauron, if given enough time. I can actually see some more strategic gameplay coming in with sequels, from adding bigscale combat to building and upgrading Strongholds. In theory, they have a ton of room to go from here. Altough, even if they just continue the game as it stands as basically being Mordor-Batman, I would be fine too. It was a ton of fun the first time around, and a refined Shadow of Mordor 2 with some more features and more polish would be a damn finde game imho.

On a side note, I was a tiny bit dissapointed they did not capitalize on Shelob's Brood being in Mordor. Give me giant spiders to ride and hunt, dangit!

The Chaos Rising path would be an easy one to take here since it's all about the protagonist using increasingly extreme measures to achieve his (laudable goal) until he's doing more harm than good and it's hard to tell the difference between him and his enemy.

Which is exactly what we're seeing here in Shadow of Mordor.

There was an spider egg item with a memory of someone, I think the Mouth of Sauron, banishing Shelob and her brood from Mordor.  I guess they're in the adjacent mountains like in the time of the Fellowship.  So they could definitely be a factor (faction?) in the DLC.

Aye, I found that too. Sauron was basically keeping her as a pet for a while it seems. But by the time the Movies play she was acting as some kind of a guard dog for the backdoor of...Eh, I allways forget the name. Cirith Ungol? I'm not sure, forgive me! The fact that she keeps unwanted visitors out and eats unwanted minions seems to be the reason that Sauron tolerates her presence.

The reason I bring it up is, that quite a few times some of the Uruk's were talking about the fact that the spiders had become more cocky lately. "And someone needs to show that thing who's Boss!". Granted, the Spiders you see are regular size and seem to act as scouts. But still, the big Cave in the second area would've been a fantastic spot for some spider-themed action.

They could've also went for flying mounts. Riding a Fellbeast (Do you write it like that?), hell yeah!

Also the other tower is called Minas Mogul at the time of LotR but had a different name before.

Yeah, it's not canon. They were very careful about putting the story together in such a way that you could fit it into Tolkien's canon if you wanted to, but there's one pretty important detail that doesn't fit. Talion is a ranger of the Black Gate, but Gondor abandoned the Black Gate more than a thousand years prior to the events of the game. Given how much attention to detail there is in the rest of the game, I don't believe this is accidental. I think it's a subtle cue that the game takes place in an alternate continuity, which of course means all bets are off as to what happens next. I'm convinced they're going to go full Inglourious Basterds in the sequel and let you actually fight and kill Sauron.

In my opinion, they are better off outright making this a what-if alternate universe rather then trying to fit it into canon and fudging the parts that goes against it.

Or make a game based around the lore, rather then fitting the lore around the game.
Or not using the IP in the first place, but I guess they are trying to sell it based on the Tolkien brand.
