First combat scenario and I'm maimed, why did I expect better from myself? am I just recovering in bed? if so, could you post the severity of the injuries? I hate to ask so many questions, so just lmk if it's not possible  :D

You've been back up and about for a while actually, I must've forgotten to write about it. Though I have played a few more months and you've been injured again, I'll be writing about it in the next entry, but now you have a broken lower spine from fighting hammergoblins. The lion just left you with some lightly torn limbs.

Maub`Dib's Journal

...You are only a few pages deep...
...The pages seem crispy and frail, small pieces from the corner crumble as you flip through it...

25th Limestone

Today i was feeling very down, and some how Vayus Grim knew this.

A craftshop was erected for the making of arrows, so that i may hunt again!
My back aches from all the hauling and menial jobs i was helping with, but now i get to hunt!

To savor the thrill of stalking a prey, the wondrous sound of `snap` as the bow sends a lethal projectile upwind...

Aw yes... Vayus, you have my never ending loyalty for such charitable acts.

27th of Timber

We have been attacked multiple times within this year, one of our militia was whipped to death just a few days ago. Everyone took this very hard. This desert is unforgiving.

It is a terrible thing, to smell a goblin. A hunters nose must be very keen.
I cannot describe the mixture of unbathed flesh and malevolent intention it gave off... Like a nightmare that transcended reality and became physical and real.

14th of Moonstone

Komodo Dragon was telling me of the progress of the foundry, ale was thick on his breath and he smiled like a madman, it seemed he had been waiting for this moment since we arrived. In a couple days he said, it would be completed.

On my way to a hunt, i saw Asa staring off at the cave in the distance... What connection does she have of this place? She looked at it the way one picks a scab, almost subconsciously.

From the diary of Komodo Dragon, blacksmith:

"Ya know, I'm getting used to living in this desert. The climate's harch, the conditions are modest and local wildlife is f***ing willing to kill you. Sounds like my kind of place. Our camp has been raided twice since I wrote my previous entry, but our militia managed to whoop their green arses. Broke Gamer got whipped to death... Poor sod. I kinda liked him. He used to borrow money from everyone and always said he's too poor to afford a proper housing.

In other used, I finally got to working in the new forge. Man, this thing is large! You could equip a full squad of triarii with bronze chestplates and steel spears. I've been making weapons and armor with pleasure, but this makes it even better.

One of my new aquaintances, Maub, keeps asking me about making arrows. He's a keen hunter, it seems. I like this of enthusiasm... I should consider asking him for some help with that cave. Kindabossy still doesn't let me there. Man, she gave an order to kill the pointy-eared traders... I don't support that kind of attitude, but desert laws are tough."

I would very much like to join with one Artyom Barkov. Male, some kind of warrior (The plan is to master all weapons sooner or later, but we all need to start somewhere)

From the sounds of these early days, this abbey needs people ready and willing to paint the sands red with blood to defend it more then ever.

It does indeed, and luckily I've just started up two new squads using a nice big migrant group. We have a squad of axemen and a squad of swordsmen being formed.

It may be a short while till I update this again though as I need to get some more progress done on my turn on one of the succession games. Three or four days maybe.

can i claim the military commander if so named Thanatos. if not a swordsman who wields two short swords.

Thanatos does not talk much but when he does it is either screaming at his enemies or being pessimistic. he wears all black clothing including a hood and cloak. the hood allows you to only see his mouth which is regular all the time unless in battle were you see a feral grin. he is a chain smoker so he always has a cigarette in his mouth. he fights surgically by hitting weak points which he knows from his mother who was a surgeon. his father was a military historian so he knows the military history of every civ.

7th Obsidian
A kobold thief tried to steal from us. He ran before the soldiers could catch him.

21st Obsidian
A squad of goblins tried to ambush us again. They cut up the commander a bit but were all killed.

10th Granite
Sad news journal. Mr.Mountain's back was broken by some goblins and now he can't walk. We've out him in a bed in the dormitory.

27th Granite
Good news everybody! We've just received migrants. We've more than doubled in number. We have new masons, new furnace operators, soldiers, farmers and everything! This is such a good day. I heard Kindabossy getting the masons together to build some homes for the newcomers.

10th Slate
I saw Mr.Mountain crawl down the stairs today. I spoke to the doctor, apparently his back is still busted and there isn't anything that can be done about it so the doc is just letting him go about his business. He went over to the training area we partitioned off for the soldiers, halberd in hand as he crawled.

18th Slate
We've decided to prepare a proper hospital, with soap and bandages and stuff. We're digging it out underground next to the catacombs to keep our injured out of the deserts chill air. I always thought deserts were meant to be warm until I came here. We should try and do something with the ice in the river.

Right, now that I'm back in the saddle (or overseers chair or whatever) I've gotten all the humanisings done. I'm working on the gear that people wanted for their soldiers, but it'll take a while since I'm trying to improve the materials from bronze.

Maub`Dib's Journal

...The next page is stained with dried blood, it flakes off as you scratch at it...
... The small pieces of sun burnt plasma distort part of the page, and as you flick them away it reveals a picture of a small mouse drawn within the journal...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This desert has an odd smell about it, the air seems to bounce off the ground and pick up a flagrance of some peculiar spice i cannot identify, i wonder if the others have noticed this, it is rather strong.

Many new faces have come here, one has struck me odd out of the bunch. He calls himself a mason, but i see something strange in his eyes, almost like those of a predatory animal. Panther, or lion maybe.

I havn't made contact or learned his name yet, but i sense a great story to his being here, like fate has struck a deal with him.

OOC:
Basing my character off a certain popular story, hope it's not inappropriate to do so.
Also the mason should be a good lead in, for anyone lurking who may want to join.

I will continue to incorporate him into my journal, and curiously await his history.

I'll have an update later today and it will be a pretty long one, a bit of character relevant information is that Thanatos has lost a hand and Muad'Dib got killed by a squad of crossbowgoblins with a swordsgoblin leader. Difficult to run when you're stuck with about 5 bolts.  :(

Oh and because Senshuken asked, here's Artyom Barkovs information, posting it here rather than PMing it because other people might be interested:

Didn't realise how old he was until just now.

It seems to be a sort of running gag with Fortresses I have a character put in that they start off in their Twilight years, just waiting for the grave to claim them.

Well your character does have a wife who is alive and well (though also old) so it may be that we'll wind up following the life of a child or two with the family name.

EDIT: Heh, just a minute after typing this I checked your relationships again and found you have a daughter already in the fort. 25 days old so she was born in the fort just before I went through assigning names to spouses.
