Fun fact: modern physics makes Lovecraft look quaint, comforting, and unimaginative.

Here's a few:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imaginary_time -- Just like other imaginary numbers; think geometric orthogonality. Now apply that to time. Turns out, you can use it to smooth out the singularities from space-time; rendering both black holes and the big bang more intelligible.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeta_function_regularization -- Fun fact: there is a method for determining a possible sum of diverging series; and the infinite sum of all natural numbers (positive integers) is equal to -1/12. These equations have numerous application in physics, including quantum field theory.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renormalization -- Though that's only one method for doing such calculations; which appear commonly throughout quantum physics.

P=t^w

And, since it will come up eventually, what is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
African or European?
I don't know.
First response on Google guys.

How eastern hemisphereicentric!

What about us human animals in the WESTERN hemisphere, eh!? WE HAVE SWALLOWS TOO! Not just in the north either, MANY IN THE SOUTH TOO!

Much supremacy! Such conceit!

Ptw! And pose my own question: How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Why, a woodchuck would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck could chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

Honestly, why do we ask such questions? ;)

Fault in the superstructure of your bicycle. Probably metal fatigue. I was originally going to do a fancy picture, but sadly paint refused to cooperate.

Edit: Anyway my question. The Earth's rotation is slowing down. Now, this is obviously not very good, so let's stop this. And for fun and profit, let's assume that we're using an equatorial mounted laser to do so. How much power would we need to emit.

I started answering your question, b ut gave up when my calculator died and excel started rounding up numbers for no reasons (I don't care what you say, 6*10^-13 s/s IS significant!)

Well, apply the conservation of momentum... photons have momentum after all, just not a lot. From E=pc and E=hf you could find the required parameters for a laser inputting as much momentum as the Earth is losing. I shall do the calculations tomorrow, seeing as I am off to bed now...

It would probably be better to do this, while simultaneously focusing power on the earth from the sun, so that total energy equilibrium of the planet's atmosphere is conserved.

Releasing large quantities of energy into space has to come from somewhere, afterall.  If we beam LOTS of energy from the sun onto the planet from space, we can selectively heat one side, and have radiant energy push on that side. It also supplies the energy to re-radiate on the other side of the planet.

Now your energy expenditure is simply on moving the energy around. ;)

Of course, doing that would probably kill most of the life on the planet, but whats a few hundred billion lumens of energy between friends, huh?

I know how to compute it, I'm just lazy and don't want to do it by hand.

If you accelerate the Moon to the maximum speed at minimum distance from Earth in which it will maintain a stable orbit, will surface life be adversely effected?

Well, if we assume the atmosphere has been removed to simplify calculation, we can safely say that life will suffocate.
