Don't small bombs explode on impact? How would the alien have fired it after it died?

Re: Open X-COM: does it offer recording features? If not, then I'm not willing to restart just to play something slightly different. I already have the bugs patched out thanks to xcomutil.

Well, it doesn't have any such things built in, no. But it's a standard OGL window, meaning any videocapture software is going to work fine.

Also, it's not merely "slightly different". It's not like XComUtil, and does not provide balancing changes (except tangentially). Having access to the engine itself, it can do quite a lot. Here's a full list of changes: http://ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=Differences_to_X-COM_(OpenXcom)

It's basically from simple things like carets for text editing, to right-clicking to open doors, to this:

You probably never knew you'd like to see your base's radar ranges before. I know I didn't. :P

What about in-game screenshot functionality? I nearly abandoned my plans for this LP because Steam Overlay didn't work. If DOSBox didn't have the ability built-in I would never have started.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea you're pushing. But if recording doesn't work out there is no way I'm going to switch without a decent way of getting rapid-fire still images.

Some of its functions are really quite handy.

(most of those start out as "NO")

Also also, I literally just now was wondering whether I could start an X-COM LP, and now I don't have to! ^_^
I was actually thinking of doing a LP of the new X-COM: Enemy Within, but I think I'll hold off on it until Sirus is done with this.

I agree with Sean, OpenXcom is better than DOS by leaps and bounds. I was leery of it at first (infamous 'high explosives penetrating alien hull' debacle and all with another Xcom "fixer"), but it really doesn't change all that much. At least, not stuff that you would notice nor stuff that would be untrue to the original.

You can even make it hilariously punishing (more so than vanilla) if you set the settings to do so. Guerrilla-fighting aliens, you'll love to hate them.

There's no option of "Finish this first, then do another with OpenXcom".

There's no option of "Finish this first, then do another with OpenXcom".
And no option to "Start new game in OpenXCom and pretend nothing changed".

Forgot to mention, use the latest night build if you plan on going the OpenXcom route. Those tend to (with what I've dealt with) be the most stable, the recent version 0.9 has a few bugs that are fixed in the night builds.

Do you want to toss in a few extra mods into the mix to make things more interesting, like facing off against early Cult of Sirius members and such (and maybe also some combat robots)?

Since we're not too far into the game, I'd say restart with OpenXcom, but reuse the posted characters.  I'd prefer vanilla as opposed to with mods, but obviously it's up to Sirus.  I tried OpenXcom for the first time off this thread, and have to say it's got huge quality of life increases over the original.
