Knowledge check - what do I know about how intelligent puppeteers are, how they affect their hosts, and what kind of society they have?

"Fascinating. How do you live? What kid of philosophies do you believe in? How do you structure your societies? What relation do you have with your hosts?" Grill them for lots of details.

Alaris curses under her breath and clutches her small but bleeding wound. "Of course those bastards would set traps..."

Crawl under the wire and continue. Keep a careful eye out for more traps; this can't be the only one.

Gregory Guy:
The guards wave away your concern. There are wards in place to prevent teleportation in the building.

Luara Godkissed:
You find his legs sticking out from under a table, on which rests a large and complicated conglomeration of magic items, with no obvious purpose.
"Amazing! I really appreciate your help. I'd love to help you, but I'm afraid this needs my full attention. I can get some more beans from another place, so if you don't think you can handle it, don't sweat it."

Edgrick Browne:

Joes Arlandt:

They can be pretty smart, in groups. You're not very familiar with the mechanics of their possession.
"We live quietly, among the population. We believe in a world where we do not have to live in fear. Our Queen will bring that world. Our hosts live their lives, and then we borrow their bodies for a few hours each night, to form the network and continue our work. But now it is under threat. A few of our brethren broke from the consensus, and tried to seize power. Now, we are at war, and we have no weapons."

Alaris Valentis:
You make it down the rest of the stairs without incident, which leave you in a large cube farm of an office space. Blinking warily in the lamplight that streams through the window, you realize you have absolutely no idea what you're looking for.

"Ah, okay, right... Um... I really can't remember, can I? Well, this shouldn't be too hard; just find documents with the guy's name on them. In this giant room full of offices. Which probably have thousands of documents in them. Each. Well, better get to searching..."
Alaris scratches her head and starts looking.
"Maybe they've got some sort of filing system that'd help..."

Laura chuckles. "Oh, don't be silly. I have friends with the Church Cops who can help me. I don't think I'll make it a church cop job; I could use a warehouse full of stuff to make the sort of people who love stuff happy. Thinking about that, I think I'll need to do some prep work before I play warehouse worker. If I help you clean your cute eetsy bitsy storage plane, will you let me keep stuff there?"

Without waiting for an answer, Laura continues. "If you want help, why don't you take a quick break from playing furniture explorer, and play scribe instead. If you can give me pictures or descriptions of the dead-walkers, and whatever you think is making them, I can ask find a cleric at work who knows more about the dead-walkers than me, and ask advice. Then I can make sure I say the right prayers so that I teach my god the right tricks for turning dead-walkers into dead-deaders."

Go fetch it and hand it over, it's brought me nothing but sorrow.

"Alright. But yes, you. You're one of the few who have experience fighting the Puppeteers, and a task force has been set up, with Guy and I in charge, to try and investigate and deal with the source of their intrusions. There would be steady pay, if that's what you're worried about, and the option to requisition equipment for general and specific use."

She follows him as he leaves, walking idly, long legs easily matching the faster strides of the smaller man. Her hounds follow behind, shaking at the webs that still cling to their fur. Kemik would need tended to at some point, as well. Fighting was not a clean process...

Alaris Valentis:
(Search: 19+2)
You start to dig through paperwork at random, and quickly come across a scrap of a memo that says to collect all of Xavier's paperwork and have it in a Redmountain's office by today. Leaving the paperwork as you found it, you quickly find a side-office with the name Regard Redmountain on it.
You try the door. Locked. Not a problem. Taking a 20, the lock clicks open quickly.

Laura Godkissed:
"Of course! Sharing with you'd be my treat! It's mostly just a curio. I'd make a mess of it, I'm sure."
You hear Custard's voice in your head. "Believe me, he would."
"Well, you could make yourself useful, Custard, and pull out the notes we took."
With an extravagant telepathic sigh, the little dragon flies out from under the table and pulls out a small book. He flips towards the end, and slices out a page with his claws. Dropping it in your hand, you see tallies of creatures. Around 10 zombies, 20 skeletons and a few ghouls.

Joes Arlandt:
"Oh, no. They're happier for it. We even arrange for things to turn out well for them. Think of us as kind little fairies."

Edgrick Browne and Celles Gartens:
Back in front of the town house that a certain trio broke into last night, Edgrick knocks on the front door. From inside, you hear footsteps, and a young human girl opens the door. Seeing the Coalition crest on Gartens' armor, a worried look appears on her face.
"Can I help you, officers?"

Gregory Guy:
Vague action. PM sent.

"Hmm. Well, that's certainly impressive. So what goals are you working towards, then? A safe world for psionics, you said, but what in particular does that entail?"

”Okay. The Puppeteers being the worm things we fought in the tunnels a few days ago? I have some experience, I agree, but I wouldn’t… technically describe myself as a combat specialist. I guess the investigating part is something I could put my skills to though. What kind of contract is this? I mean specifically with regards to notice required to terminate the contract, and exclusivity of work – I presume I can’t go off and fulfil a minor contract for a third party? But yes, I’ve been looking for something to get me stably settled in Kalgena, so why not, and if I want to get stably settled here, as much as one can, and these Puppeteers threaten the chance of that, well, there’s a good enough motivation beyond the money to help, no? So that’s a yes.”

"Puppeteers? What are those? They certainly don't sound good, and if they are trouble then shouldn't someone get rid of them? I'm looking for work right now, since I'm new in town, and it sounds like you could definitely use some help..."

Examine whatever he hands over with both magic and my eyes as best I can without asking for it. Does it ring any bells?

Laura pockets the notes. "No observation or insight on the strangeness that makes new dead-walkers keep showing up when you turn the old ones into dead-deaders? Do they appear with some sort of fancy flourishing effect, or simply stumble into the plot of existence that your eye notices?"

She chuckles, "The more I know, the more hints I can give to whatever clerics I find at work who like to talk about and fight with the dead-walkers. Then the better prepared I can be when I show up..."

Look around the office first, but do not enter.
"This Redmountain guy seems to be going through a lot of trouble to protect some paperwork. I wouldn't be surprised if his office has some traps, as well."
