One of the few people running the Pen sees you into an interviewing room. On the other side of the glass is Elias. He's looking run rather ragged.
"I'm afraid that I don't have my resume on hand, Officer. I can speak five languages fluently and have seven years of experience as an alchemist. I'd have a glowing recommendation from my last employer, but I haven't been able to reach out to him."

Joes Arlandt:
"The Queen must rise. Your race is already working towards that. Then, when she is awake, we will bring about the fall of the Hunt."

Samantha Gralthon:

The mace that Edgrick hands over is definetly magical, but you're sure that it doesn't have a school tied to it. 100% certain.

Laura Godkissed:
"Custard saw a couple climb out of a single coffin, but couldn't get a closer look."
"Yep. Pretty average looking stone sarcophagus. Not big enough for the four skeletons that clambered out."

Alaris Valentis:
You swing open the door, not triggering anything that you can see. Inside is a table, some chairs, a few filing cabinets and a safe.

Check the filing cabinets first, then crack the safe if I can.

"Well, Ms..." he said to Gartens.

Edgrick realised he had barely exchanged a word with his new-found... leader? up until now. He wasn't sure he'd even heard her name. She was certainly an impressively competent fighter.

"Well. I suppose under the circumstances the mace is yours to do with what you will, if taking it in as evidence is what you will. But it is clearly magical: perhaps you may have some use for it? No, what am I saying, it's a stolen and probably well-known item. It's probably not even safe to sell to the most qualmless dealer we could find, unless we did it immediately, not that, of course, I would think of such a criminal plan. Or know how to follow it through."

He held out his hand for the newcomer to pass it back to him.

"Anyway. Back to this job. You were about to say...?"

[Angle]

"My race is working towards that? You don't mean Redmountain, do you?"

Alaris Valentis:

You find nothing relevant in the filing cabinets.
(Taking a 20 to open the safe.)
Huh. That's weird. The lock was pretty easy to pick... maybe a bit too easy... Well, it doesn't matter. The target is almost in hand. You swing open the door, revealing the safe's contents.
There's nothing in here. Except this slip of paper, which seems to have some writing on it. Huh. It's definitely not the papers you're looking for.

Joes Arlandt:
There's silence, and then the main voice 'speaks' with a smile evident from their tone. "Ah, our apologies, Elan. We have only heard of those with the Power in their veins. It is a pleasure and an honor. We were referring to your previous race, the humans, but the dwarves, the halflings, the gnomes and even the blasted orcs and their half-breeds all set pick to stone with the mountain above. The day She is found draws nearer with each swing and blast."

[Angle]

(I was actually thinking of redmountain the dwarf, but this misunderstanding will work out in my favor.)

"And once that happens, you don't expect to be able to subjugate the mortals, do you? They are crafty and resourceful, and have a theoretically limitless supply of reinforcements. They will make things exceptionally difficult for you."

Joes Arlandt:
"Subjugation? Oh, no. You can see, we already peacefully coexist. We have no desire for dominance."

Alaris Valentis:
((From behind his board, The DM grins and rolls a die.))
The paper says "I am not a fool, but it would seem that you are. Why would I keep my most precious things where everyone expects them to be? Please. I have style."
As you read the final word, a snake emerges from the text, and flies straight at your face. (Reflex: 14+5, Success.) You drop to the ground, and it flies over your head, dissipating with a loud BANG.

"Well, shit..."
Alaris makes a break for the nearest window, as the guards have obviously been alerted by the loud noise.

"So you merely plan to target the hunt, then?"

Alaris Valentis:
You lift the heavy latch on the office window, and scramble out.
(Move Silently: 2+6)
Your first step puts your foot down on a piece of debris, which makes a loud noise. You hear someone shout "Over here!"

Joes Arlandt:
"That is part of the plan. While the Hunt still persecutes us Psionics, we cannot live in peace. The general populace has nothing to fear from us."

"what's the rest of the plan, then?"

”Okay. The Puppeteers being the worm things we fought in the tunnels a few days ago? I have some experience, I agree, but I wouldn’t… technically describe myself as a combat specialist. I guess the investigating part is something I could put my skills to though. What kind of contract is this? I mean specifically with regards to notice required to terminate the contract, and exclusivity of work – I presume I can’t go off and fulfil a minor contract for a third party? But yes, I’ve been looking for something to get me stably settled in Kalgena, so why not, and if I want to get stably settled here, as much as one can, and these Puppeteers threaten the chance of that, well, there’s a good enough motivation beyond the money to help, no? So that’s a yes.”

"Eh, I don't really know. They said we could hire you and some others, so I wanted to see if you would be willing. Rather not have to deal with more paperwork, at the moment, though...we can talk about the terms later, what's important now is the mace and getting you briefed on what's been discovered so far. Which isn't much."

((Considering they were traveling partners for a while, I must assume Edgrick knows her last name, at the least.))
Stowing the mace in Greghir's pack, and bending down to inspect Kemik's wounds, she continues speaking.

"Now, I know you might not be the best at fighting, but we do need someone capable of getting information subtly. As you've seen, Guy and I are...not that. I will try to handle the paperwork, while you handle the street side of things. Does that sound good for now?"
