In the southern wastes of of Xorag, live wandering tribes of orcish barbarians. They rarely threaten the northern civilizations, preferring to follow the great herds or raid border towns and outposts. A few have been seen probing Kalgena, but many are converted, into street thugs or laborers. They don't dirty their hands with mind-bending, seeing it a corruption of the natural order.

It sounds like this a very hostile mental take over, and it probably was no standard magic, as standard magic has more advanced techniques than brute force. If you had to guess, it was an unpublished, mid-power spell, or maybe not even arcane.

You figure the writing is probably about 500 to 800 years old.
The corpse seems to have been scrapped clean, but not by blade or fang.
