I have a couple questions regarding this game right now.

How easy is it to get into? I've been looking for something like this for a while now, but I won't even bother if I can't play the game due to a lack of skill.

How extensive is the building and crafting right now? I understand the game is really early in development, but it would help me figure out if I wait for a bit before buying.

And lastly, does it take a good computer to run? I'm running Mid-spec everything except my GPU, which is falling behind.

I can't seem to actually load the server list. No idea what that is or why, but yeah. Obviously you should expect bugs so far before a full release.

So what's the verdict on this? Is it worth the $20.00 at the moment?

If you're willing to put up with the occasional hacker, endless paranoia, and have good internet, and a like of fast paced FPS style action. I suppose it might be worth the money. Of course, I never paid for it, having gotten a free key months ago. It's engrossing but very frustrating at times. Best played with a group of trusted others, I think, because being a loner is hard and it's nearly impossible to get in with an established group.

It's a blast to play right now, and I have 60 hrs into it, but am a bit burnt out on the whole genre to be honest. The good or bad news is that Gary, yes the one and only Gary, is changing things at a whim and his whims are typically beneficial for gameplay. There is no telling what it will turn out to be in the end, but it's $20 for unlimitted online play with or against others.

This game has some... unusual players.
General rule is that you're fine as long as you look non-threatening (read-unprepared). As soon as you have a weapon though people get shoot-first-ask-later-y.
For example, I have had guns pointed at me countless times and politely asked to piss off as an unarmed new spawn, but as soon as I get/make a gun, it's headshots from assault rifles all over.
But that rule isn't always too accurate. One time I spawned in, was held at gunpoint and given a bunch of food, then after the charitable people wandered off, I was caught in a house by some stranger. I tried starting up a conversation but he just left. Then went back in and shot me. I have no idea even why.

Thankfully, I am still devoted to the art of being friendly to the point of being stupidly trusting. Worth it for the fun; being excessively paranoid is boring.

So this game or DayZ?  Both look pretty fun and are pretty similar, wondering which I should get.  Seems like dayz has more dull moments with super intense moments, whereas this is more fluid.

Fellow bay12 players that want to play rust:

I have my own rust server!

When you start the game, press F1 to open the command console and type:

net.connect 69.174.252.149:28215

This will connect you directly to my server. It has the following features:
-Sleepers
-PvP
-Half crafting time
-Air drops at 15+ players
-Very friendly players! (Even the bandits will help you out after killing you once!)

My Steam is KenpoAj. Feel free to add me, I'll answer any questions!

As in it's a kill-all-noobs server and this was just bait?

I've asked steam for a refund but they don't refund pre-alphas. This will be the last time I bought a pre-alpha then.
