An RTS of some sort. Prefferably with mechs or tanks of some sort, base building is a nice plus (especially if you get a lot of stuff to build and do) but not required.

Keep in mind I've played the CoH's, Mechcommanders, MoW's, Sup Com's and most other RTS games out there.

One of the species in Universe at War might be right up your alley! Your buildings are giant robotic things that you can customise! I'm also reminded of Metal Fatigue, where you build your own mechs and use them to fight. They are RTSs, and I have pretty fond memories of both.

There's the warhammer stuff, I guess. Anything before Dawn of War 2, I'd say -- it's considerably more infantry focused, in general. Don't recall if the older one that actually had gargants and whatnot normally was an RTS or TBS, though... still, there was a couple of those pre-DoW ones that were fairly neat, from what I recall.

Mind also consider... Warwind? Yeah, that's it. The second one, particularly. It has tanks and mechs and whatnot. Also base building. Mind you, said tanks and mechs and whatnot are kinda' flimsy, from what I recall, but eh. Interface is a bit clunky but it was pretty interesting.

As for tanks, guessing you're aware of Warzone 2100. If not, well... there you go.

Most of the Spring Engine games fit; my favorite is Zero-K.  It combines the TA-style flow economy with a game that's actually fluid and fun to play (in small games, anyway, but it can get up to 10v10 matches) - it promotes aggression rather than racing to high-tier units while turtling, and also has a very good interface.  It doesn't have as much in the way of base building as, say Supreme Commander, and much above basic power generators and production is not very good in small games, but it's got some.  It's also absolutely full of tanks and mechs; basically the only things that aren't one of those are aircraft and ships.

Runescape has changed such a ridiculous amount since I last played that I can only tell you it exists and is a browser-based MMO.
As far as I know, Runescape isn't browser-based anymore.
Edit: Just checked, it is browser-based.

Thanks for the tips :)

After reading the OP, I'd be shocked if there was anything like it, especially if "no premium or free-to-play monetization" is included in the requirements (Err, no, chrome, I don't mean demonetization ???).

There was some kind of entire-world-politics-mmo-simulation thing being developed, but I don't remember the name of it, it was in early alpha when (I believe) it was mentioned on these forums (within the past year, I think), I have no idea what their monetization strategy was (or, their not-going-broke-and-having-to-shut-down-the-servers strategy), and the most I recall is that it had big plans.

Perhaps someone else will remember it.

Even if the setting is very different, I'd say try Dominions4. Maybe something in the line of Heart of Iron series might satisfy you in MP, but the mechanics are way simpler (but still leave great deal of math).

I need a game to add to an article for my magazine. It's on gamification apps. So far we have DuoLingo, Fitocracy, and HabitRPG, but my editor wants a pure game as well that is only about fun, not gamifying life. Personally, I think that's kind of missing the point of the article, but she's the boss and I have to do as she says.

Can anyone suggest a free game which is available on PC, iOs, and Android that doesn't suck? I know plenty of great PC games, but I don't have a smartphone or tablet, so I'm clueless about the mobile market. Trying a Google search just gets me a ton of "FREE GAMEZ HERE" type sites.

Thanks guys!

I should probably mention that this article is for Czech students learning English. They are beginners to the language and aged 12-15. I just need one fun game which is free and available for iOs, Android, and PC/Web, without too much difficult English vocabulary. It doesn't need to have a focus on "gamification" -- and anyway, all games are, by definition, "gamified." The article was originally about gamification of life, hence DuoLingo (gamifies language learning) Fitocracy (gamifies exercise) and HabitRPG (gamifies responsibilities/habits). But now my editor also wants me to add a game which is just a game, because she thinks the stuff I listed isn't fun enough to get their attention. So it will be "look, these 3 things gamify your life!" and then at the end "oh, and here's a fun game in case you don't care about improving yourself."

So I just need one game, any game, really, which is free and available on all those systems. I've been looking on Kongregate and found that the Game of Thrones: Ascent game is a good one, but unfortunately the English level required is far too high. Also unfortunately, Kongregate doesn't seem to want to let me view their full list of mobile games if I'm using a PC, so I can't have a good look through to find a good game for the magazine.

Puzzle games would probably work well, though my editor likes to use games that have at least *some* English in them, to justify using them in this English-language educational magazine which is marketed heavily towards teachers to use in their classrooms.

Edit: I'm going with Sheep Happens. http://www.kongregate.com/games/LingPlay/sheep-happens?acomplete=sheep+happens
