This does seem to come up every couple months or so. Anyways:

I can't really remember where UrbanGiraffe came from, but it's inspired lots of puns and shitty plays on words, so it's pretty ok. My favorite is ur-banned-giraffe.

I think there are approximately 12 obscure bands named Urban Giraffe, so it's not quite unique enough. I'm considering switching to RudeBauble, but that's a bit too DF.

I'm a misspelled monster.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

This one?  I more or less typed in random letters 'til I got a string I could work into something nice.

My first City of Heroes character.  Dark Miasma / Dark Blast powers, and 'costume' made so he was basically a black silhouette with glowy eyes.  All the snappy generic comic-book type names like Wraith had all been snatched up, so I added Bio to the front.  His backstory (I can't remember if came before the name and inspired it, or after the name to justify it) involved a lab experiment that infused and twisted his human body with nether matter, making him effectively a biological wraith.

I kept it for other places because a) it was my main character and online identity for 8 years, and b) it's almost always available.

An incredibly dumb (in retrospect) portmanteau of a trope name.

It's a made up name my brother created for me to use in Everquest over 10 years ago.  I ended up using it on pretty much every forum I signed up on since.

I wanted a name to fit the upper boards yet still sound sciency. I watched Back to the Future the day before. Rock Brown sounded stupid.

Way back in WoW beta I needed a character name and I wanted something that sounded latin so I made some shit up and it has stuck with me. (With some variations.)

It was only later I checked and it actually was a latin word meaning suitable or something along those lines.

I say this mystery should prove trivial, old sport.

it's based off of a picture someone made years ago. i've been looking for it occasionally for avatar purposes

Mine is based on DF. I discovered that, while i loved magma and all, even more than that i loved steel and the mess it made when steel weapons were used. I loved hacking, stabbing, slashing, and bashing. Due to this steel became the magic problem solver to me.
