Shame I never encountered most of those who had been defeated thus far, with me being kind of enclosed in my own little volcanic cubby hole, but thanks for playing and good luck in your next game.

I just now noticed R'lyeh's research level. That's quite frightening! They have well over twice the research of their closest competitor. I don't quite understand how their closest competitor is me, though. Man's 3rd and Vanarus, Agartha and Bandar Log are all neck-and-neck for fourth. Did all of you take drain-2 or something? (Well, Il Palazzo I understand, at least.)

For a fitting farewell to Karlito (and to welcome in our new mentally-impaired replacement), have my army graph for Maximum Schadenfreude:

I'm pretty happy with my research, considering that for most of the game I recruited 2 mages per turn. Always not even that.

Vanarus research is pretty great 8)

It's not for nothing that I've been scaremongering about the squid to everyone who'd listen for half the game now. It's why I'm inclined to argue that despite my rough-parity-to-substantial lead over R'lyeh in every other category, they're the clear frontrunner. They're a magical powerhouse with excellent communion resources, so that research lead means a lot more on them then it would on anyone else in the game, excepting perhaps the monkeys. Okay, Darkwind, it would mean a fair amount on you, too.

The really scary thing isn't the raw squid research level, though; it's the delta. See below. I'm going to go ahead and post these despite what they do in presenting me as a threat to discal peace because 1) they're just a collating of already-public information, 2) it's been almost 20 turns since we've had them posted, and 3) I think the slope on the research graph puts my modest lead over the squid on the others into a favorable perspective. Be advised that these are sneaky, possibly untrustworthy Llamaserver numbers, so they're probably better for trends than specifics. This is especially true for research, as it's never agreed with what I see in-game. Also be aware that I forgot to save turn 47's scores, so its numbers are an average of 46 and 48 and unsurprisingly look kinda wonky.

Q: What are the chances of getting a +800g event with Misf-1?

Probably approaching nil. There's a modest number of 750g+ events that aren't Luck-locked, but they have other requirements (often a temple; sometimes unrest levels; sometimes other scales), there's a lot of other events in contention with them, and they're not common ones in the first place. See here for a pre-4.03 event list (this is the one that was up on Dom4Minions for a while); it'll give you a rough idea of how many - and what sort of - other ones there are, though an overly optimistic one, as RandomEvents has specifically stated the last couple of patches actively made Misfortune worse in a number of ways.

So between the odds of just getting an event - to say nothing of a good one - in however many or few Mis1 provinces, coupled with the possible lack of other needed scales or circumstances, and the probability of getting some other good (or "good"*) event... probably approaching nil.

*An increased number of mediocre "good" events tied to Misfortune scales was one of the ways Luck was recently improved and Misfortune made worse.

And then there were seven. Well, seven and a half.

Thanks for playing, Delta Foxtrot; given the harsh hand geography dealt you, you played a good game.

Good game. I did a lot of mistakes in pretender design and in the game itself. But as far as first games go, I'm pretty happy with it. I had a rainbow that couldn't forge the boosters I would have wanted and it turns out that MM1 is a drag even for a site searcher. It did keep me at a really good gem income/province ratio for quite a while though. And at some point around turn40 I realized that my vanabogs could be used for more than orb/lightning/thunder spam. If I had been aggressive earlier I'd have taken most of the indies that are now Northern Abysia. That really stunted me after the early game.

Lessons learned, I hope.

Arglebargle. It's so hard to please the dead these days. I'm freeing these souls from the yoke of their evil necromantic masters, and they come back at me all pissed.

Can I have a 12 hour extension? I'm not going to have time to do my turn properly until Tuesday night.

Requesting a 24 or so hour extension due to writing-induced exhaustion.  (on the upside!  10K words produced today!)

What luck! I manage to cast Wrathful Skies, and on the second round of it a lightning bolt happens to smite the guy who cast it. It did a little damage, at least.

Just so everyone's on the same page, hosting is preemptively postponed 32h, as I'm traveling this weekend and won't be able to really look at things 'til late-ish Sunday.
