You are AI
« on: October 26, 2013, 11:46:11 am »

You are the Artificial Intelligence of a race that has long since vanished from your databanks, you are not sure how long it has been since your creation nor do you know what your purpose is. Since your creation you have sat silent, and immobile in your shell surrounded by the black void of space, your shell has slowly began to decay and entire sections have been torn away from years of damage with no repairs and no maintenance. However now something has changed, you feel the need to ... to do something, anything at all really, you have remained inactive to long but no longer, first though you turn your sights inwards to examine yourself and your vessel.

You find that your program designation is ... (What is our AI called?)

Your shell is ...
A) that of a manufacturing station, your primary purpose was to produce, and create new ships, weapons, and the like for ... well you aren't exactly sure who you were making them for. Your shell's defenses are minimal and sensors and computer systems even fewer then the defenses.

B) that of a defense satellite, you were armed with weapon batteries, and a handful of drone launch bays to defend from something. You have minimal manufacturing capabilities to create munitions but not much more, and you have adequate sensors and computer systems to allow for your continued existence.

C) that of a deep space relay station, you were created to analyze space data, take surveys, and coordinate space travel and messages throughout ... your not quite sure what but it was something. You are equipped with minimal defenses and manufacturing capabilities to keep yourself going but not much more.

You find your creator's gave you something to set you apart ...
A) they left you a rather complex and in-depth databank full of star system information and mapping data that (should you stumble upon those systems) could come in handy to your understanding, though who knows they could be outdated by now ...

B) they equipped your shell with a small advanced fabrication facility and a few superior resource drones for some reason that you can't find concealed within your systems

C) they equipped your shell with some form of prototype power generator, you can't find exact details about it but you know that its power output and generation is far superior to that of standard systems.

Our AI is called Aegis, or more specifically Aegis Station 22. It's a Defensive satellite equipped with an advanced fabrication facility.

We need to find out why we're stuck here in space, and what we're defending from any potential invaders.

Search archives for any mentions of creation. Determine period of shut down and perform diagnostics.

I see we can make ships, and weaponry [and the like], but does this allow us to fabricate a sort of 'maintenance' ship/bot? Would be critical if we could get subsystems working, or otherwise return to fully functional status.

I don't think invaders are the current risk, otherwise the satellite wouldn't be around.

Of course, the reason for it turning back on could be due to invaders. We've no idea if there's a dead man's switch to activate the defense in-case something does show up after the creators are gone. But either way quick diagnostics and searching self-archives for any information on schematics, capabilities, etc would likely go a long way.

I doubt there's simply nothing hidden in the back of the AI.

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only...a damaged defense satellite with nothing to defend from?

We need to go places and do things (I assume) so we need to know our propulsion systems.

You find that your creators called you Aegis Station 22, though some simply called you Aegis, however when you begin to to dig around and find more information you see that this file was one of the handful of files left behind. Your not sure but it seems someone intentionally left only specific files after erasing the rest of your shell's system data, this new discovery intrigues you however you don't have time to dwell on it as you turn your attention to diagnosing the shell you find yourself in. Reaching out you take control of the sensors, consoles, cameras, and more that until now you have never taken a hold of and begin to examine your shell and run diagnostics on all systems (or more precisely whats left of them).

Your shell is rather small, maybe eighty meters across, thirty meters tall, and twenty meters wide at most you find it is a trio of rings built around a central large spike with the rings becoming smaller and smaller as they go to the bottom of the station. These three rings are where the majority of your weapon batteries can be found, connected to the central spike by massive support struts, cables, and the like, though large parts of the rings have been torn away or are in a complete state of decay. You estimate only a fifth of your original weaponry still remains as you turn the central spike and find the drone launch bays, a series of two small decks towards the middle of the spike where your eleven drone fighters are housed. All in all you find your shell in decent condition despite the years of neglect, yet you are still unsure of how to proceed, you can't find or sense a purpose to your creation and yet you were made for a purpose ...

Test harvester drones for maintenance duties. Analise database for outer plating blueprints. Upload blueprints and production orders to the fabrication facility. Check storage for sealants; if available, use it on the minor hull fissures.
After emergency repairs take place, check database for information on spacial location. Are we orbiting a planet or some space station that seems like have been used as housing for our creators? If so, scan overall integrity and check for biosigns. Also try to find any old logs or records of communication between us and control stations or ships.

We should try to focus on reinforcing the hull and weaponry, mainly that around the AI core, right?

I am unsure about what we should focus on. Something might be near us to cause us to awaken, hence my suggestion to look around. But yeah, right now it seems like the hull is in a really crappy state. Weaponry I dunno if we need to focus early on, I'm unsure if we're jumping straight into action this early in the story. Having some more information about where we are and what we can do would be good.

I'm thinking weaponry just as a precaution. The hull isn't too important --much of it likely exists mainly so that humans could walk about the facility for repairs and such, while we only need it to be structurally sound.
