On the topic of me needing some serious pills, I would right now relate just how crazy I was back then due to the whole "mutilated dead guy triggers my premature birth" incident, but this isn't the thread.

I have to agree, egging the artist to work faster is just inconsiderate and cruel.

I still don't know if having a webcomic places any duty on you, to be fair. Duty is doing your job or what is expected of you and can affect other people, and webcomics are, instead, a creative project, and a side project at that. A webcomic brings nothing more than fun, and is born from said fun, if it doesn't update on schedule then nobody's going to suffer.

Writing Goblins is, in fact, his full-time job since 2008. Main source of income and all that.

My thoughts on the blog can be accurately summed up as the following:

tl;dr.

I think it relates to lack of interest to spend that much reading time.

But if you don't want to read something, then you can just ignore it.

Why is it neccessary to say tl;dr? Especially since if you didn't read it, you don't know if the length was necessary for expressing what the person wanted to express.

No idea. When I don't feel like reading something I just don't read it.

You might decide a message is too long without reading the whole thing.  Like if you read a few lines and find it's rambling and not getting to the point.  Particularly if someone summarizes the message for you, and the point seems really simple.  Of course, assumptions are often wrong, but they're also a vital part of spending our time.  Everyone necessarily makes assumptions.

tl;dr can also mean it's too long for you, specifically, and not necessarily for other people.  That you didn't have the time or interest to read through the thing but that other people might get a better understanding from it, and care to.  That's where I'm at.  I'd rather skim the thread and maybe write a silly reply than slog through a serious blog post right now.

"TL;DR" posts are a major pet peeve of mine, too.  I don't care if people don't bother to read my content, but if that's the case then don't comment on it.  TL;DR reads like a flippant dismissal of any potential value in what I had to say.  It reads to me like an insult, meant as provocation.  It says that my thoughts aren't worth your time, but telling me so IS worth your time.  And the only reason I can imagine in most cases for bothering to point this out is to get a reaction.  It's on the same level as "u mad bro".  A cheap trick of emotional manipulation.

If it's because you are interested, but my writing style is just that bad, then actually say something like "The style of your post is rambling and painful to read.  You'll get through to more people if you clean it up."  That's constructive criticism.  TL;DR is not.

Aye. The acronym I do find useful, but only as a shorthand to add at the end of my own rambly posts to indicate "This is a summary of what I said before." It's kinda worthless for describing other posts, for reasons SalmonGod has pointed out.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Some things could definitely be more concise and to the point, though. "tldr" seems a reasonable enough criticism when used that way.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

TL;DR for me means he could have said it more concisely. There are not enough days in a human life to digest all of the great works of literature, be immersed in every great song and poem, and gaze reverently upon every great sculpture. Much less the touch of your lovers or the golden glow of fresh mornings. 10 minutes wasted - truly wasted - because the author decided to digress verbosely means 10 minutes less for worthwhile experiences before you slip into that long good night.

One could say Thunt's intention and skillful execution was for the reader to experience his mental state at the time, but I didn't get the impression that was his intent nor did I think that was the result.

TL;DR is my way of saying I refuse to read this until you edit it better. When I TL;DR myself and summarize for you, I'm apologizing for the same. Giving you a red flag that you might be about to waste your time and summarizing so you can choose which version to read. That's essentially what he did, so no big deal.
