The new server we are on is Wyrm. We left the old one due to a lack of player population.

just about have a sailing boat now to sail over to the pvp map.
Wyvern! And most us have fallen asleep but we're still getting there :P

Alright. The boat has been hidden in our little cove. A reminder to everyone. Do NOT chop down the trees along the coast near our cove. They'll help hide our buildings and the cove from sight of passerby's.

Related, I saw a log pile from the ocean near our cove. Someone should do something with that. If it's not done by this evening EST, I suppose that someone will be me.

Thanks again, Xardalas. If it were me, I probably would have told us to pound sand.

We seem to have some weird single-minded dedication in our game. We join the server with one thought, "go east." We then lemming ourselves along until we reach a stopping point, surprising a Russian guy and decimating his cedar forest. We grind out some skills and armor and set off on two boat trips. While the first boat is in transit, we grind some more (ground almost to chain jackets while waiting). We leave as quickly and quietly as we arrived, leaving behind some terraformed land, a cooling forge, and an abandoned mine.

Then we all arrive in our new hellish home and set about digging ourselves in, ere the lava spiders get hungry. Strike the earth!

We're dwarves. This seems pretty natural honestly. :P Still, was a momumental amount of effort to get a sailing boat up that quickly and sail all that way.

I just want to share my route to meet up with the group so we can all point and laugh.

I started out pretty nice, heading east from Stronghold. I ran to the end of a road, didn't see Highgate (turns out it was the under-construction settlement I had just walked past), and set out to the northeast as I thought I was a bit farther south than I should have been. Walk, walk, walk, oshithellhounds, walk, walk. I let my compass settle a few times and noticed I had somehow started going almost due west. I correct that and follow some coastline for a bit until I see a settlement. See where I am on the map, ponder giving up on life. Walk, walk, walk, hear sounds of combat at the dorf camp, and join in. The bear decides I'm the most tasty, targets me, and kills me.

Respawn. Head due east. Finally walk into the town I saw to identify it. Rage when I determine it's Highgate. Ponder giving up on life again. Walk east some more. Arrive and start grinding skills.

First route: At least half an hour. Second route: ten, fifteen minutes.

Nice. unfortunately, I seem to have encountered a fatal error in WU. While I was in the boat. So we likely lost our sailing boat and I am no longer able to run the game.

After connecting to any server and clicking launch, Wurm immediately crashed back to desktop. Did a google search and it gave no answers. Uninstalling and reinstalling the game didn't work.

Rebooted the PC twice and even removed steam and reinstalled it. I just can't seem to get it working again.

Oh man, that sucks. Have you tried deleting the WU directory in steamapps entirely and then installing? (Prior to that, maybe one of the log files contains some enlightening info?)

Let me give it a shot. Honestly, I have no clue. I've literally installed not a scrap of new software in the last three days. I don't think it can be conflicting software issues or something unless it decided it wanted to start fucking things up after three days of playing.

No such luck. Managed to find a steam thread from a month ago. Apparently this is a ongoing issues where people can play fine and then the game just stops working. There were a few different fixes in the thread but none of them have worked for me.

I should be on later tonight (23:00 UTC) but I am stranded in the middle of no where on the PVP server.

Xardalas was taking me and Exerosp to the pvp server by boat, and he dropped us off somewhere so we could log off, but now Xardalas is having problems getting back on.

I will try to  walk to where everyone is tonight, but I don't know how far it is.

I got it working for now. It only seems to run when it wants to. Current theory is, is that the game eats more ram than I have when I launch it. If that was the case, I'm not sure how it would ever actually run but it does on occasion.

I'm at work so I can't play (shh, don't tell my boss) but I can do reconnaissance on potential enemies.

<snipped, the metagame is one game I would rather not play>

Is it using 64 bit java? If not, that can be the source of some nastiness. I remember having this issue back in WO, and frequently with Minecraft. Removing any 32-bit version should work.
