The Harbinger prototype 0.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I was going to ask why the gyros and port/starboard (tehe) side shields aren't working but then iRealized the green hexes probably mean an L1 and the turqoise an L2; now the puzzle of how to make the damn pieces fit together nicely...

The $60k is for the flagship j'assume; are we limited on t'other ships as well?

EDIT
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

New design; the rigidness of the shapes and where they link available is slightly peeving, but iS'pose it has a lot to do with not knowing the game.

Downloading all the things now.

Might play around on the server when I build a few ships.

60k for everything, and the other ships go in the flagship file (they don't have to be docked, they can be just floating there).

On the Harbinger:
  • You use only deflector shields, which stop 25% of the damage but let the rest through.  WIthout hard shields or armor, a lot of damage will still get through.
  • I wouldn't use the Strut 3; probably two Segment 3s and some Strut 2s could hold everything you have now with no trouble.
  • That interpretation of hex colors is correct.
  • I wouldn't put that many weapons on the carrier, because it is relatively fragile; while mine is at the low end, I would stull save the turbolasers for other ships.
  • Those warheads would damage your own ship worse than the target; they are meant for loading on missiles.
Some more ships of mine:

Goddamnit. I know this defeats the purpose of a captcha, but to avoid needless complications, can I get the name of a stock race or shipset of Space Empire 4 or 5 as registering requires it and I don't plan on playing either ::)

Terran Confederation worked for me.

THANCS for that, Draxis; although the thing with keeping it off the ship in space is it shows it all as redlinked D:

How does this little nublet look for a fighter?

I think I may have something to settle on.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Decided to abandon the long ship design, even though I liked it a lot.

My drones add another 6720 together.  So, time to come up with a 6k ship to attach and done.

Wow, 6 pages long!
a couple of points incase they've not already been covered (6 pages was tldr):

SuicideJunkie (the dev of THANCS) also posts here in bay12, I believe he's away for the weekend but will no doubt poke his head in here once he gets back.

for help, the easiest way is to join the freenode IRC chan #spaceempires.

THANCS is multiplayer only, there's currently no AI.

you may need freeglut.dll it's in the THANCS folder on imagemod (where you got thancs)
just pop it into the local thancs root folder. (where THANCS-perlgui.exe is)

for PBW captcha, see here: http://wiki.spaceempires.net/index.php/Races

setting up games currently is a little tricky, and the documentation is a little lacking, bear with us till we get that a little more user friendly.

some time ago I made this horrible howto vid on ship design: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOt4eoFKN1g this was way back with the old designer, since then we've got a better designer built into THANCS-perlgui.exe. still there maybe some usefull info in that vid. I did start to do another better updated video, (with less umming and ahhing) but then tripped over my microphone wire and broke it. oh well.

someone commented on Begin, we (SJ, ekolis and myself) did create a clone of begin some time ago called VecTac (vector tactics) based on begin it has heaps of extra stuff, it's kind of been on the backburner rusting away for a few years, but it's a playable and fun game. if there's some interest I can set up a server and get it running (unlike begin, it's multiplayer only) see me SJ or ed in IRC.

Glad to see folks getting interested in this game! I did a lot of the graphics for THANCS - yeah, I know, they suck, but SJ is a worse artist than I am and a better programmer!

Draxis, how did you hear about THANCS? Did SJ mention it here and it never quite took off until now? Or was it from my Reddit post a few months back?

If you guys are interested in more space games, I'm actually working on an open source clone of Space Empires 4 called FrEee. It's a portmanteau of "free" (since it's a free game) and "Eee" (one of the stock races from SE4, so a totally cromulent answer to that captcha). You can check it out at https://bitbucket.org/ekolis/freee - it's currently semi-playable, similar to THANCS, and I've been working on it a lot lately, adding (for instance) the "memory sight" feature from SE5, wherein the game remembers things (such as enemy colonies) that you've previously seen but are now obscured by fog of war.

I found it from a post on the Aurora 4x forum.

Finished my fleet:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The weird movement patterns on the flagship are because the fighters are blocking LOS to the engines - it won't be a problem ingame.

Where do I upload it to? Do I make it an EMP file and give it to PBW2?  Do I just send it to the host?

Looks like it will be 3v3, unless we want to 2v3 with one team having more points per-player.
