For rules, how about:
  • The game will be either 2v2 or 1v1v1, depending on the number of players who join
  • Each player may deploy up to 60000 points of ships
  • Each player will have one flagship with a medium fabricator on it. A player loses if their flagship is destroyed (meaning, either no CnC or no power left.)

I'd say flagship destruction should be counted as 'when it becomes wreckage' namely, when it can no longer repair itself and cannot move under its own power.  If there's the chance that the flagship can get itself back moving, then it's still counted as 'alive' but we'll sort of agree when a ship is truly destroyed...

I'd also say the Flagship's cost should be separate from the fleet's cost - you may make a flagship up to 25,000 cost along with any number of ships not over a total of 25,000 cost, for instance.  Actual numbers need tweaking, obviously.

Otherwise, I'm ready to start flailing and failing.

Those rules sound fine to me.

I like GIH's take on it. I think it's technically a Carrier start.

Basically, you build one big ship, with small ships attached to it. Then you release the small ships at game start. This sound good?

The seperate costs would work; I have no opinion on it.
The "no CnC or power" thing was just tort of formalising the defenition of wreckage - CnC is needed to make repairs, and needs power to function.

Err, to clarify. I meant, we should probably build a fab base with ships attached to it, totalling a cost of 60k?

Can you not deploy multiple ships in the game, or does it force you to deploy with only a single vessel?

You can, but from what I understand, it's a lot of headache.

Started designing a carrier, went a little overboard
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Also no docking ability.

That looks a lot like my first try; I think I have a better one now though.  One big thing to note is that the wall/corner deflectors don't stop damage, only reduce it (by 25%?), so with no armor or shields under them you will still take a lot of damage.

Also, I'm not sure what is the point of disruptors except for the Heavy and Charge ones; they cost more for less DPS and more mass than lasers, and only those two are big enough to pierce shields in one hit.

Point defense most likely.

Yeah, noticed there was no actual docking there :P

One thing you might want to change, is to push the gyros closer to the center of mass, or remove them entirely.  Gyros work best the closer to the center they are, while rotational thrusters work best the further away from the center of mass they are.  That's also a LOT of power generation (useful if you're using it to recharge fighter batteries) and not much hard armor.  The deflectors covering your lasers are 'leaky shields' and will let damage pass through.  With no hard armor or shields, you're going to start suffering structural damage quickly.

NINJA: Disruptors require less energy, you can sustain fire or salvo larger banks more easily.

Some say I can learn.

I say if I shave the square block enough it will go through the round hole.

Both to expensive and slow, for my tastes.

Edit: Also not enough power.

I think 1 acceleration is fine.  Remember this is Newtonian - that isn't "max speed of 1" but "max change of 1 speed per turn."  So over 5 turns you can accelerate to 5 hexes per turn, and then coast at that speed.

Oh I am aware of that, I don't mean speed as in my top speed is 65mph and that is slow.  I mean it is slow in the getting to to move where and facing towards what I want in a reasonable time other wise it will get shot in a vulnerable area (read 90% of it).

That turnrate is definitely a problem - with that turnrrate, it would take you 150 turns to turn around.
