That's weird. F3 worked for me once when I took a break from designing.

Also, I just confirmed. We lack host code to create .gam files. Currently. The game is still in development, and I guess it makes sense.

So the only way to play is through the PBW site. Which is fine by me.

That was my #1 priority to find out, so, that leaves rules.

From what I understand, fleet/carrier is the fastest way to play the game. The other way is to use Fabricators to build our ships while in game, but this takes a while due to us having to skip the first 10 or so turns. Which means, there can be a huge hangup if someone goes to sleep or something.

I am a European zone night owl, so technically I am active on EST times, so we can do the fab start just fine if we want. I like 2v2 or 1v1v1.

Also, I think seism is just fighters/missiles.

I am in EST, though from the morning to around 4 (EST) I won't be able to play.

Isn't there a way to, with init-plr.exe, set the amount of starting money for players? That would get around the wait requirement for a fab start.

The problem isn't that I can't open odt files, because wordpad opens them fine. The problem is that I didn't know it was an odt because the file I downloaded somehow ended up named shipdesigner-manual.zip, and behaved just like a zip file. After renaming it to .odt it opens in wordpad. (I was not familiar with how the odt format worked, either)

Also, looked at list of files for download. There isn't even a .zip, just the odt. Bizarre.

If we're definitely doing the PBW site, then what set of mods are we using?

I'd suggest some sort of cost limit for starting.  Each player gets a set budget, and gets to deploy it, as well as one small fabricator to replenish missiles or fighters.

We could make a flagship rule - you deploy a flagship of X value with the fabricator, and a number of escort ships that fit your budget.  Flagship can be used to replenish missiles/probes/fighters for the escorts but by the fabricator's limits, it can't be used to rebuild lost escorts.  If a flagship is destroyed, you lose.

Alright, guys, I have created 2 games on the PBW site, as SJ has to accept the invitation for the autohost.

Each one is a six player game (we can add or remove slots if we have too many/too little)

The first game is for our... first game.

And the second one will be for when we figure out our designs are total crap, and want to play another game with actually useful ships.

The reason for this is so we don't have to wait for SJ to come from work and accept the invitation-- meaning, we should be able to play right after the first game.

The gamename on the PBW will be THANCS B12 Foxtrot, for the first game and THANCS B12 Sierra, for the second one.

Look it up and join, we can hash out the rules and such in the meantime. I'll add you as friends on the site as well.

If we can upload our own mods, I would suggest stock - it is basically stockv2 but with slightly more components, better graphics, and buffed missiles.
If we can only use the ones on the server, I don't know, as both seem to be broken and incomplete.

I'm Dessard on the PBW site; joining the game.

When trying to join, it requests a shipset... what does this mean in THANCS terms?  The mod, or a folder with the ships to have at start?

Just ignore the shipset. I think that's for SE4/5.

When loading stockv1, I get lots of uninitialised variable errors... is this a problem for anyone else?

When trying to register an account, it'll give an anti-bot captcha to make sure you're legit.  It asks you for a stock empire or shipset from Space Empires 4 or 5.  "Abbidon" will work - this is the alphabetically first stock empire from SE5.

Foxtrot is using Stockv1 parts, for those designing at home!

I haven't tried stockv1. But like I said. I think we'll end up playing Stock without any problems. I think it's just a listing thing that says stockv1.

The ship builder manual doesn't explain which key I hit to make it start  :(

Basically I get to this big black screen with main menu, indent, ship builder and load save.  I mouse over and the grey words become a little lighter but clicking does nothing.  I tried every key on my keyboard but nothing will take.  Do I need more than just freeglut.dll to make it work?

You need to put the mods and graphics folders into your THANCS directory, then click on one of the mods listed under Ship Designer to open the ship designer.

I'm now just really lost.

The mods folder has folders seism and stock's v nothing through 2; all of their contents are .egg files.

Where would I find mods listed under ship designer?

Yep, just confirmed, we're playing stock. SJ is online, and renaming Stockv1 to stockv3, the latest version.

I think the autohost is gonna join soon, and we can begin at any time.

So, rules. Time to decide now if we want to play before tomorrow.

Also: Just placing mods in the THANCS folder, as they are now, should give you the options.

It will look like this:

Start Design:
  seism
  stock
  stockv0
  stockv1
etc..

Click on 'stock' and start building!

Below "Start Ship Designer" on the main screen there should be another indent, with a list of any mods.  It looks like this

Click on one of the circled blue lines to start the ship designer.
