The mountains to the east rise up from wooded ridges to sparsely-treed stone with patches of snow, rising quickly to sheer rock faces with long vertical cracks and chimneys, coated in ice and snow, shrouded in fog and clouds. The peaks blaze in reflected noon sunlight. You can see things flying around above certain peaks, diving and soaring among the jagged terrain. A dense bank of cloud and windblown snow hangs about the highest peak and you fancy, squinting, that among those clouds are glittering cities with marble minarets. But you don't see where the avalanche happened.

In what order will your party go down the well?

Charlotte expertly slithers down the rope. Pearl takes her time wrapping her leg around it, grasping the rope against her foot with the other foot, and slowly descends. As you swing your legs over the side of the well and prepare to go down the rope too, Pearl says from below, "Wait, there's not enough space, and it's too dark for Charlotte to see anything. I'm coming back up."

Pearl re-emerges.

You can hear Charlotte scraping and tapping. Then there's a crash, splash, and the rope goes taut again. Charlotte comes up again, shivering and wet. She mouths "ice" and lays her hands flat with fingertips touching, then flips them downward.

Pearl makes getting Charlotte dry a priority. The women head in to the guard tower for the bedding there, Charlotte peeling off her freezing clothes as they go. You hear someone inside breaking up wooden things.

You're outside alone. The area is quiet.

Quite. Guess we keep look out then swap with someone later?
Is just asking for the person we switch with to get kidnaped by Gremlins and forces us to chase and save her. It could be fun to do eh? Even if we fail.
On the plus side ice means there is water, it is just frozen.

since Charlotte is wet, that means that SOME of the water is not frozen. I do think that we should wait until charlotte is dry before returning to explore the well.

You hear continued activity from inside the guard tower. Smoke rises from the chimney and a cheery glow peeks out from the cracks in the walls.

You hear a splish from inside the well. And then another.

Would like to get Claire to back us up in case anything comes up, but that might take too long to arrange so, +1.

Maybe we could use some salamander blood on the torch also?

Heh, I posted that as a joke. Then again, this is Bay12 and this plan is crazy enough to work...

You take out your torch and wipe at the blood on your clothes with it, but it's not coming off because it's dry. Some spit loosens the blood enough to coat the torch. You light it with your Engraved Lighter and it flames up nicely - better than normal for a torch but nothing extravagant.

You drop the torch down the well. It misses a creature on the way down - some kind of white snake climbing the rough walls by slithering back and forth. It hisses at you and continues upward!
